'Lonely Planet guides are, quite simply, like no other.' – New York Times 'Lonely Planet. It's on everyone's bookshelves; it's in every traveller's hands. It's on mobile phones. It's on the Internet. It's everywhere, and it's telling entire generations of people how to travel the world.' – Fairfax Media (Australia) Review: Awesome book!!! - This book is great if you are looking for ideas on how to do a walking/hiking tour in Europe! I shows different walking tour itineraries for all different skill levels, organized from the start of the book so you know ahead of time which paths to look for. This book is so inspiring! The one thing I would say is that the text details, while helpful for when starting to plan or look for ideas for your trip, are pretty minimal. Enough information is giving for you to find the location you want to go to and do more research, and the photos are a huge selling point in deciding where to go and what the scenery will be like! A great book to gain travel ideas upfront and get excited to do more detailed planning down the road! Review: Lovely - Bought it as a gift, was sorely tempted to keep it for myself. For avid and armchair travelers alike, this guide is a worthy addition to your library.

Ok-ish
The book is rather UK-centric; also, it seems to be written for people who approach hiking with a touristy mindset, rather than for hikers who want to discover new trails.

Inspiring but reads more like a magazine than a book
The selection of content is solid and the book is good at what it does. The problem is that it is more like a list of destinations. Feels a bit like a product catalogue you would get from a tourism agency. There is no detailed guide about any trail and the amount of practical information is minimal. Even when it comes to pictures, they favoured fancy full page pictures rather than adding more visual detail. As others mentioned, this targets conventional tourism rather than hiking enthusiasts. It is useful for discovering new potential locations for your next adventure, but that's about it. You will have to look for more detailed information elsewhere. What's ironic is that lonely planet's regular guides about countries or regions, while being targeted at regular tourism, do include much more practical information about road trips or even hikes. This is more the kind of book you would find on a hotel lounge or have in your living room to entertain guests.
