After looking all over online for the most ideal, secure and convenient to transport lock around for me electric scooter I finally settled on the Hiplok as the number one option. For it's protection rating which has been updated to the highest level of Diamond rating by Sold Secure, this makes the lock stand out from any other lock in its price range and many more expensive options too, and I have to say the lock is very robust and has a good, heavy (but not too heavy) weight to it suggesting high quality construction and strong and hard materials used to produce it. I was looking in particular for a lock that was both easily carryable and transportable, and for which I would not have to attach to a bracket on the frame of my e-scooter. I needed a lock that could either fit in my pocket, or I could carry on my body without it being obstructive so that I would not have to carry a bag around all the time to hold it, and at the same time having a very high level of security and strength in order to effectively prevent theft. Hiplok ticks all the right boxes. No longer do I need to have a U-lock clanging around recklessly on my handlebars and now I can just attach the Hiplok to my waistband in even just a t shirt and pair of shorts to go to a quick trip to the supermarket or cafe without having to take my scooter in with me so that it doesn't get knicked. I was considering the masterlock street cuff as it would fit in a jacket pocket but that only has a low Sold Secure rating of bronze and there are numerous videos and reviews around showing it's weaknesses and lack of resistance to breaking from a determined thief with the right tools. Hiplok on the other hand is made out of a high-strength and hardness, hardened steel and has a high-security locking mechanism to prevent lockpicking or smashing, which I can say as of a few weeks of use I have had no issue with unlocking and locking with the key and the mechanism works very smoothly. The Hiplok attaches very securely and well over the waistband, and does not cause any discomfort when riding nor will it fall off or move about. All in all I am very impressed with this lock and I am confident that I will use it to a high level of satisfaction for a very long time.

Looking for a lock which is affordable and can combat (most!) attempts to remove - this is a great one. Really strong and well made. Fits neatly on my Trek bike frame with the included frame mount. Downside is that, like most U locks, it's hard to get this around anything like a lamppost. But don't let that put you off. Really feel safe leaving this in a busy town centre and trusting your bike will be there when you return!

This is one of the best bike locks I have come across. Kryptonite was the brand I always use to know for great security locks but I always hated their mount mechanisms, always too bulky and didn’t look nice. With a bit of searching found HipLok, initially the belt style lock but with a little more digging found this. Fits easy to the frame, is sleek and non bulky, the lock feels durable as anything and the updated diamond rating is always a nice thing to have. Some issue I have is as much as is said about the design doesn’t rattle; on a smooth path, no it doesn’t. On a bumpy road or mud path, rattles pretty bad due to the tolerances needed in the design to allow the lock to slide in and fit. Personally have added foam inside the mount to eliminate this issue but feel it’s something HipLok could implement themselves, especially for gravel riders that want something like this. Otherwise great product from what I know, not had a bike attack yet either so hopefully never find out how good this product actually is haha!

It seems a decent enough lock, you have to work off the rating to tell you more. It's quite small however, so won't secure frame to wheel on my bike. The mount is nice enough, but be warned, the lock does rattle quite a bit when riding. The rattle is from within the lock itself, not from the lock rattling within the mount. The mount can be installed to a bottle cage mount, or like I did- with heavy duty cable ties to a fork leg. Keys are nice and chunky, won't get accidentally bent. Opens and closes with ease, I got a warehouse deal so was better value.

The locks too Heavy!-The carrier is awkward and difficult to fit to a Cannondale Top stone carbon bike. It takes up the majority of space within the inner frame and leaves no room for even a water bottle to be used. Very disappointing. I purchased a light bike with the intention of keeping it light but this just goes against what I needed in a bike. I get the need for security and having bike insurance but this takes the shine off taking the bike out. I`m in 2 minds whether the return it and try and find something lighter.

It looks and feels tough, and the weight certainly helps with that. It is admittedly a bit small, so depending on where you’re locking the bike, you may or may not be able to lock both a wheel and the frame. The mount is really good, and doesn’t shake as much as I thought. If the road is even a bit bumpy though you can feel it and hear it moving around. Not much, but it’s certainly there. Overall this lock and mount combo is recommended.

Most important for me is that it is secure and certainly seems to fit the bill. Unlike some locks in the past the key mechanism, clasp all seem to work smoothly even after several rides in the rain. I have a larger framed bike and do struggle a bit with the size of the U lock, I understand the reasons but do find it restrictive in finding where it will actually fit my bike. If you have a road/gravel bike you will probably be fine..... with mountain bikes it starts to be more restrictive so measure before buying, or do like I did and buy the cargo version as well which comes with a length of solid chain.
