A Great Continuation of Spider-Gwen!
"Spider-Gwen, Vol. 1: Greater Power" collects "Spider-Gwen" volume 2, nos. 1-6, written by Jason Latour with art by Robbi Rodriguez and Chris Visions (on issue 5). Rico Renzi continues to provide a distinctive color palette for the series. Following the events of Secret Wars, Latour and his artists relaunched "Spider-Gwen" as part of the All-New, All-Different Marvel brand. Despite the start back at issue number one, this follows the story as it had been going without much mention of the Secret Wars. The story begins with Gwen Stacy seeking out Dr. Curt Connors to find out how Earth-65 Peter Parker managed to turn himself into a lizard. Along the way, she encounters a team of lizards and her universe's Captain America. Meanwhile, Matt Murdock tries to use her father to recruit her to the Kingpin's side. Visits to the main 616 Marvel Universe to meet with Jessica Drew lead to discussions about the role of destiny and the meaning of life.Latour continues to tell an exciting and innovated story and the art and inks by Rodriguez and Renzi make this one just as much of a treat as the previous volume. My only complaint is the art by Chris Visions on issue 5, which doesn't match anything before or after in this volume. It has a rough, unfinished look compared to the stylized appearance of the rest. Still, fans of the character will find a lot to enjoy here.

Spider-Gwen Vol. 1
In this first volume of Spider-Gwen we get to see multiple characters from both the older & new Spider Verse. The main baddie of thie volume is the Lizard. Gwen is still her world's Spider-Woman but she does visit Spider-Woman, the Jessica Drew version , who is heavily pregnant. And Lady Thor is kicking butt near by.We also get to see both Captain America & the Falcon who are now both women of color. Again the colors pop off of the page and the art has a black light effect to it.

Enjoyable
Latour's Earth-65 is fascinating in what it does and does not invert from the status quo of Marvel's Earth-616. Some of the character interactions really work, Gwen with her dad, Gwen's friendship with Osborn, etc. Some world changes are interesting, such as Matt Murdock as a king of crime and a lawyer. I, however, have to agree with some of the writers that Spider-Gwen's humor does mirror Parkers' and often seems to fall flat or is just out of character. One of the most fascinating elements is borderline fourth-wall breaking conversations with Spider-woman of 616.The art is bright, slightly inconsistent, but Robbi Rodriguez does bring a manic energy and a cartoon-influenced line style that does work with the overall feel of the book. While not amazing, it is definitely interesting to both Spiderman fans and to those who enjoy a teen-centric book.

It's interesting to see how the characters we already know interact within this alternate universe ( Daredevil, Vulture, Harry Osborne) and Gwen is as likeable as she's been in a long time. The art is usually very well done and the color are wonderful as well ( even in some cases were the art is lacking). The main problem is that there's no real main conflict still. Aside from a few baddies there's no real big threat driving the story arc and the conflict is still mainly just Gwen struggling with being a superhero. Another very minor thing: instead of just Gwen becoming the spider superhero instead of Peter it seems most of the superheroes have been swapped with female counterparts, yet lesser heroes and billians remain the same gender. stI'll an entertaining book and I can't wait to see where this series is heading (hopefully an actual story arc).

This is the series that has finally got me into comics.
This is the series that has finally got me into comics. I used to only be passively interested in comic characters and such, never really read any before for the most part, mostly watched comic book movies and listened to podcasts and people talk about comics and such. Seeing this character made me curious and very interested. Also I'm all for more female super-heroes. The costume design is simply amazing, the art and story is solid and is an overall great read. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys comics at any sort of level. Don't need to know much marvel back story with this, especially since it largely takes place in an alternate universe compared to most marvel comic books, but if you're familiar with various marvel character you will find some of this universes versions of them to be rather interesting. It holds up very well on it's own and doesn't rely heavily on anything that came before. I will be keeping up with this series as long as it runs

Okay but still a letdown
So, this was a significant step down from last volume. I still loved Latour's Gwen but I didn't enjoy Harry or Cap. I didn't understand Cap's involvement or her backstory. I thought Harry's motivations made little sense and his actions less so. The art was still by Robbi Rodriguez and still decent but rushed. Overall, an okay read but the shine is already off the new book.
