Sharp Enough to Slice Through Reality (or at Least Your Veggies)
This Knife Sharpener is one of those kitchen gadgets that makes you feel like a culinary superhero, without the spandex. Stage 1 effortlessly tackles dull knives like it’s a mini construction crew for your blades, and Stage 2 puts the finishing edge on so smooth you half-expect your veggies to salute before being chopped. I’ve used it on everything from butter knives (don’t judge me) to my chef’s knife, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to hear that “shhhhk” as the blade glides through the sharpener. The grip keeps your hands safe, which is great because I like my fingers attached, thank you very much. It’s compact, easy to use, and turns a chore into a tiny victory moment every time you sharpen. If you’ve ever dreamed of being the person who can slice tomatoes paper-thin without effort, this is your gadget. Sharp knives, happy chef, zero regrets. Works fast too!

Sharpener Works Well.
This knife sharpener works well for the cost. I don't think it will last very long but it does sharpen the knives right now.

Incredible value and easy to use.
After years of use (and occasional abuse) my myriad of knives had become dull and to some extent unusable. I had tried using a steel rod sharpener to get an edge back to my knives but my lack of skill (and lack of patience I'm sure) was leaving me with sub optimal results. I figured before I gave in and purchased new knives I would try a knife sharpener. I'll be honest price was an issue when purchasing this item. I would have happily been persuaded to buy fancy new knives (because new things are always fun) so I figured I would put in a small investment into a knife sharpener and if it didn't work out I'd just get new knives. I haven't bought new knives The KitchenIQ 50009 sharpener has been amazing. I don't have knives that cost hundreds of dollars but they started out excellent and after using this tool they are as sharp as they were new. This was quite impressive given how worn and dull my knives were. The two stage sharpening of this item does a wonderful job. If your knives are dull start with the dull side, move to the sharp side and you're done. Each knife only takes seconds to sharpen and the tool takes up little to no room in your drawer. I've even brought this with me to a friends house to sharpen their dull knives as well (after they made a mess of a tomato in my presence, after sharpening they work like a daytime infomercial) I can honestly say you can't go wrong for the price. Please note I only have standard edged knives, and if you have specialty knives with non standard knife edges this item probably won't be for you (as they only sharpen at one angle) but for your standard, non-serrated, everyday knives this item works great and you won't struggle to chop vegetables and cut meat afterwards.

Great!..except for the plastic.
This is a great product. Works well does the job. A space saver. Grips the counter. Definitely deserves 5 stars. I gave it three stars bc it was packaged poorly. In one of those plastic bubbles glued to cardboard. Theres no need for irresponsible plastic. It could be protected by cardboard. Also it was really hard to get it out of the plastic!! !

Great, fool proof sharpener!
There are about a million (slight exaggerating) knife sharpening tools out there including sticks and stones. Well, sticks and stones may break my bones, but the words, "these sure make my knives sharp" never escape me. I realize there are people out there who can take a 70-year-old knife never sharpened once and a simple sharpening stone and have a knife that can cut through steel. I am not one of those people, but this KitchenIQ 500009 Edge Grip 2 Stage Knife Sharpener* was recommended to me by Amazon when I purchased some knives for my parents. The price was right, and the reviews were strong, so I figured I would just buy one in the process. I am extremely happy with my decision. This sharpener has two grooves--one sharpens dull knives (like mine) and the other just for fine-tuning a sharpened knife. I have had this for about six months now and have used it on all of my knives. They are good knives, but they were poorly sharpened (by me) and have dulled over time as any knife will. This sharpener is so easy to use. Put it on the cabinet, take the knife, run it through the corresponding groove a few times, then you are good. It is tough to mess up with this--if you follow the provided instructions you sharpen both sides at once. My knives are almost as sharp now as they were when I purchased them. Now I regularly use the fine sharpening groove after every few knife uses just to maintain them. You can place this right on your cabinet--it does not slide and is easy to grip on one side. The grooved bottom allows you to place it on the edge of a counter and get a different (better?) angle on the knife when sharpening. I have not used this feature, but I suppose it might be a more natural sharpening angle. To me, just being fool proof is the best part of this sharpener. Thus far, it has held up fine. I would expect it to last for a really long time. It is also easy to store in a drawer--it takes up almost no space. This is just a great little sharpener, and I am glad I found it. *Ever consider a shorter name for your project?

Quick and excellent job sharpening blades
Used it immediately, right out of the box. I keep misplacing my whetstone, so both my fine Japanese fish slicing knife and my broad German chopping knife needed attention. If you wear a size small glove, this gadget will fit entirely in the palm of your hand. There are two slots, one for fine edge and the other for coarse. I suppose you could do coarse and then fine to get a really dull knife sharp again, but I chose to use the fine slot for the thin Japanese knife (that never really gets dull,) and the coarse slot for the German broad knife: It worked equally well for both types. They were each noticeably sharper. I began at the knife hilt and moved the knife through the slot, drawing it toward me to the tip, and repeated maybe 5 times. (I am not sure what to do with serrated knives, consequently I have never sharpened mine.) Compared to other slot-type knife sharpeners, and compared to the long honing tool that came with my German knife sets, Kitchen IQ is clearly the best home kitchen knife sharpener that I have ever used. Can't comment on durability yet. Reading through some negative comments here, makes me think: I have found over the years that inexpensive kitchen knives rarely sharpen up well. If your knives are dull after using this device, it's possible but unlikely that you are not using it properly. It is rather more likely that your knives were never tempered correctly or not manufactured well to begin with. One excellent knife will cost anywhere from $50-$300. That's a lot, I know--but it's better to have one of those than a set of eight knives that will not hold a sharp edge. I bought my knives in 1986. They were expensive, but I'm still using them, and they need very little sharpening. If this sharpener doesn't work on your knife, consider that the issue may be with that knife.
