I bought this unit after reading all the reviews on apple peelers and thought the reviews and price on this unit was the one I should get. I'm so glad I did! There was a huge apple crop this year and most of those apples were going to go for deer feed. Instead, I bought this and peeled and cored 2 batches of apples in 2 days and dehydrated them. Now, I have 10 jars of dehydrated apples to enjoy throughout the year. I have teenagers who are eating them like crazy already, so they probably won't last long, but what a great snack for them to be eating. I added cinnamon to my second batch and it made the house smell soooooo good. This unit made peeling, coring, and slicing those apples so easy. Seriously, in a matter of just a couple of seconds you have apple slices ready for the dehydrator! There's no way I would dream of dehydrating apples without this gadget since it would take way too long to do this manually.This peeler was almost completely assembled right out of the box. You just have to put on the handle and screw on the spikes. I had to make a minor adjustment, but the directions walk you though the process and it's really easy. This thing is fun and easy to use so kids love to do the 'work' for you. Plus it's nice that you can use lesser quality apples with blemishes and such on the outside because the peel is going away anyways. Also, if you have apples with worm holes you can use those too and just cut away those spots after it goes through the unit.Just a couple of tips I learned (some from the Dehyrator Bible) for dehydrating apples:*after running an apple through the Victorio, I put it on a cutting board, removed any brown spots, and cut them in half*put the half slices in a bowl of 4 cups of water and 1/4 cup lemon juice to reduce browning*let sit in bowl for 10 minutes*put regular or paper towels down and layer apple slices on towel and sandwich with another towel to blot dry*layer apples on dehydrator tray*add some cinnamon for additional flavor if desired*dehydrate until leathery texture at 130 degrees anywhere from 5-8 hoursI like mine dehydrated a bit longer. When they were done, I put them in mason jars and vacuum packed them with my food saver to add extra shelf longevity. Although, with my teens around, I doubt I will need to worry about that.

You won’t find a better peeler than this one. A solid, simple and consistently functional peeler that does what it says it does-and does it well. It is made of solid metal-it’s weight is indicative of quality and durability. Easy to use and easy to clean. It peels/slices/cores flawlessly, every time. I have made many apples with this superlative peeler and my Excalibur dehydrator. It doesn’t stop and doesn’t break-it works and works and works.DO NOT be fooled by imitators that look very similar but are almost half the price. Their cheap construction makes the tasks for which the device is designed far more frustrating and slow. Of particular note is the suction cup feature on these imitation peelers. The other brands just don’t hold with any strength, rendering the entire device essentially useless. Not this one. On our granite countertop, the Victorio has a rock solid hold that does not break. Yes, it’s more expensive than the cheap imitators, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The small saving isn’t worth being stuck with a frustrating and inferior device that you’ll end up replacing anyway. Save yourself the wasted money and buy the Victorio the first time.

I love this apple peeler. I had reservations about how well it would work. I have only used it to peel and core apples so far and it performs this task effortlessly. Unlike some other unfortunate reviewers , I found that the suction on this peeler was strong and attached to my bench firmly while peeling. Very easy to clean. Love it!
