Bought for class
I bought this for a class and then decided to drop the class because of my schedule. I have actually flipped through and read parts of the book. It is really interesting. I know that most people think of addiction as something like drugs or alcohol but in reality I would bet we are all addicted to something. Our phones, iPads, tv, foods, games, Facebook, and the list goes on. I think that by understanding addiction and learning how to deal with it we can help maybe ourselves and others around us. As a nursing student I think it is useful but also as a person. I probably check my phone, grades, and Facebook enough to qualify as an addiction.

This book discusses addiction counseling and has many examples of wide variety of clients (a real strength). In terms of counseling theory, the book tends to use a reality-based pragmatic approach rather than an extensive investigation and extended discussion of specific counseling theories.

Needed for a class
I needed this book for a class. It is not my favorite book. It feels too wordy and too much information to really enjoy as reading material. Great book to keep for references though because there is great material to support the readings.
