Q: How many seconds before the earthquake the sensor can detect the p wave ?

Well, actually this morning a quake hit us on the southern part of the island and the alarm went off between 5 to 10 seconds before me and my wife could notice the actual shaking!

Q: If I’m not home when the alarm goes off, does it shuts off automatically?

The alarm only goes off when a tremor is occurring. It shuts off when the tremor stops.
