Worth the money and quick to install
I've now had it on over a year and put it to work everyday sense then. It still works like the day I put it on. Price was great, definitely doesn't let the tailgate slam, but it also doesn't make it harder to close either. I would recommend or buy again for another truck. Installation was easy and took 10-15 mins. When the tailgate is closed you can't even tell it's there or when open it blends in without being in the way.

Tailgate hydraulic
Works great, tailgate doesn't slam down anymore. Pretty easy to install, the hardest part was getting the insert installed on the bottom of the tailgate. Probably due to not having experience in doing it before. All around, great item.

Great kit but little hang ups
Easy to install and works great but the instructions could use some little side notes. On my 2021 f-150 I had to remove a bracket to get the tailgate to close cause the bracket was hitting the shock. The tools that came with the kit is not bad but the T-50 wrench fits very sloppy so I just used my own that fit better. I have attached a photo of bracket hitting the shock for reference for other f-150's

Works fine, until it doesn't
Update 11/16/2023: The seller has reached out to me and issued a full refund. I am updating this review just to include this information. Due to the good customer service, I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Keep in mind, they did not ask me to change my review, nor was it a condition of my refund to do so. All they did was reach out and ask if I wanted a refund or a new product, I opted for the refund since I had already purchased a new tailgate assist of a different brand for my truck. The original review remains unedited below. Obviously, I was pretty angry when I wrote it, but I'm happy everything worked out in the end.I bought one of these a few months ago for my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500. It worked alright for a while, until it didn't. Several weeks ago, it completely stopped working. I opened my tailgate and let it fall, as I had grown accustomed to doing, and the tailgate slammed down with zero resistance. After returning to this page and noticing some of the absolutely ridiculous claims this company is making, I decided to make a review on it. 1) Despite what they're telling you, it's not going to make it easier to close your tailgate, it only slows the tailgate down when you open it and helps prevent it from slamming (Until it breaks, that is).2) Claiming it (and I quote) "extend(s) the service life of the entire back end of your vehicle" is such an insanely outrageous claim that it's almost humorous. I don't think I need to elaborate on that.3) "Rest Easy: This will be the only tailgate shock your truck will ever need. Tested and durable" How much testing did it take to make a product that completely fails after a few months?4) "Orion Motor Tech backs it with a lifetime warranty and after-sales service." Conveniently, there doesn't seem to be any contact information listed where I could take advantage of this "lifetime warranty" and get a replacement for my faulty product. And with a $20 price tag, they're clearly bluffing anyway. Surely if you backed your product and did that much testing to ensure your product was extremely durable, you'd provide contact information or some kind of instruction to talk to customer service, right? Because if you have a superior product, you know not many people will need it, but out of the few that would, it's all about customer feedback. But if you make claims like this and don't back it up, obviously it's because your product is trash.Overall, ignoring the fact that it didn't last very long at all, I actually liked this product a lot. Initially when I installed it, the support cable on the tailgate would get pushed out of the gap, to where it was sticking outside, as some others have mentioned. Turns out it was just because I tightened one of the bolts when it was supposed to be left loose, and loosening the bolt fixed the problem. As tempted as I am to buy another one of these for only $20, I don't see the point in waiting for it to break. If I have to cradle my tailgate every time I open it, anticipating that inevitable moment it stops working, then what's the point in using this product in the first place?Overall, I would not recommend this product. If you do buy it, buy it as a gift for someone you don't like, and in a few months they'll slam their tailgate when the product fails.

very nice
If you are on the fence about getting a tailgate lift assist kit, just do it. It is hands down one of the best, most practical upgrades you can make to your truck. What I Love About It:Smooth, Controlled Drop: No more heavy slamming. You just unlatch the tailgate, let go, and it glides down smoothly and safely on its own.True One-Handed Operation: It makes loading up the bed incredibly easy when your hands are full of groceries, tools, or gear.Quick & Easy Install: The installation took me less than 20 minutes with basic hand tools. The instructions were straightforward, and everything bolted right into existing factory holes—no drilling required.Saves Wear and Tear: It completely eliminates the jarring shock on the cables and hinges, which is going to prolong the life of my tailgate.Bottom Line: This kit adds a premium, luxury-truck feel to any pickup for a fraction of the cost. It is safe, durable, and highly functional. I can't believe I waited this long to install one! Highly recommended.

Easy to install. Works great.
Easy to follow instructions. Works great. My F250 gate with pull out step is much heavier than F150. I had one of these assist shocks on the F150 and ordered one for the F250 because it works so well. You'll need a 6mm Allen, 13mm and 16mm wrench to install. It comes with torx key to remove tailgate strike pin. Probably want the 3/8 socket torx on standby for that.

Tailgate shock
Love these, first one broke, maybe from freezing temps, I don't know but I got another. Doesn't give you a shock of your life as it glides on down.

Function is great! Installation, however, presents some problems.
I installed this Tailgate Assist device on my 2011 Ford F150. The first instructions made me laugh - place the vehicle in Park, turn off engine, remove the key, set parking brake, place blocking chucks under each wheel. I'm working with the tailgate, not dropping a transmission. Thus, these steps are a bit of overkill. Oh, well...Overall, the instructions are clear and pretty well done, with included pictures to assist in fitting the pieces to the truck. However, installation problems begin with the first step: removing the cover from the inside of the tailgate. Instructions say to use the star tool provided - it doesn't fit! The tool is a 2-end star tool, with a 90 degree bend; both ends are too large for the screws anchoring the tailgate cover. Fortunately, I had the correct size in my tool chest. Screws removed, rotate the cover 90 degrees to allow access for installing the blind nut (a single nut tack welded to a strip of black painted metal). You have to bend the metal strip slightly to reach around the internal reinforcing metal of the tailgate and allow the nut to set flat against the existing hole on the side of the tailgate. Bending the strip and positioning the nut were pretty easy. The next step is to install the bottom attachment pin to the tailgate by tightening it into the blind nut. Problem #2 - no wrench provided. You actually need a deep-well socket (1/2 inch if I recall correctly) and ratchet to tighten the pin in place, although a box wrench would work; the pin comes with Loctite already on the threads, so that helps to secure the pin. After tightening, I bent the metal strip a bit more away from the inside supports of the tailgate to avoid a potential rattle. Then, rotate the tailgate cover back into place and reinstall the anchor screws. The next task is removing the existing tailgate support cable; a small flat tip screwdriver is provided for that, and that's the easiest, most straight forward step in the whole operation. For the next step, the instructions say to use the star tool to remove the bolt where the support strap was located. Problem #3 - the star tool is an extremely poor fit and slips free. It's practically impossible to hold it in place and gain sufficient leverage to unscrew the bolt. Fortunately, I also had the correct star tool in my tool chest. Removal then was easy. The black metal backing piece holding the upper rod pin is installed behind the bolt you just removed, which then is reinstalled and tightened. The kit includes a small bottle of Loctite for this. Next is the installation of the pneumatic piston. Securing the top socket was easy, with it popping right over the top pin. Then, another problem was encountered. Problem #4 - the instructions say to attach the bottom pin and socket simply by raising the tailgate until the socket and pin aligned and pop the socket into place. That didn't work because the point of alignment was too close to the closed position - there was no leverage to position the socket and secure it to the pin. to solve this problem, I pulled down on the rod, extending it a couple of inches, and that solved the problem; the socket and pin aligned quickly as I raised the tailgate. Pop! It was done. The final step is to reattach the support cable; this was the only other time something worked as it should; the support cable top loop slipped right back into place. Now I could operate the tailgate.Tailgate operation was as described - release the lock, and the tailgate descends smoothly and easily; the weight of the tailgate is fully controlled by the pneumatic piston as the tailgate lowers into position. You still have the weight of the tailgate to deal with in closing, but that's no big deal. This tailgate assist device appears to be a quality item. Only time will tell how long the pneumatic piston lasts, but replacement should be simple. I've found most auto parts stores carry similar piston in various lengths and have replaced several on liftgates and bed cover windows. The tailgate assist piston fits comfortably into the space between the bed wall and the tailgate, with the support cable folding right against it as the tailgate is closed. The kit included a Mylar sheet to affix to any rub points and protect the truck, but I didn't install it. Perhaps I will if rub points appear, but at this time, I don't see any rubbing. Is it a good upgrade? Yes, i think so. It definitely makes lowering the tailgate better. Would I recommend this product? Yes, but with the caveat that the star tool provided is of poor quality and won't do the job; it is quite likely that you will need your own star tools and a wrench to accomplish the installation. Once the installation is complete, the assist device is completely hidden by the tailgate, allowing for a neat appearance with interfering with the lines of the truck at all.
