Is there room to get your fingers behind the handle after mounting? How high does the handle stick off from the mount?

There is plenty of room for your fingers. The center of the handle has a little over one inch of depth and the usable width is about four inches.

What is the width of the handle where it attaches?

It is 1.0 inch by 1.75 inch. It is very well made and it is not whimppy. I am able to open my 8 foot high overhead insulated garage door without a problem. It should be attached to an area that is sturdy and can support the handle when pressure is applied to it.

What is distance between the screw holes?

Horizontally the distance is app. 1"

Do stainless steel screws com with the handle?

No they do now. I had to supply my own screws. Handle works great for what it's used for.
