Review: This book is a milestone in music education, written by the same authors of the textbook "Kodaly Today". It contains the basic tenants of the Kodaly methodology, centered around the kindergarten classroom. In it, there is an exhaustive list of over 200 children's literature pieces that tie into the lesson plan concepts of tunable singing, beat, loud/soft, high/low (chant), fast/slow, high/low (pitch) and rhythm. Having these lesson plans provides a framework for the kindergarten music classroom which will set students up for continued success in subsequent grades. My charter school has just adopted this book as the main resource for the elementary music classroom. I have been waiting for its release and I cannot wait to implement it in my classroom!! I have this book in two versions, the paperback and the Kindle version. Thank you Oxford University Press for making this wonderful resource affordable for elementary music educators everywhere! Review: This is a great elementary music teaching resource, from the authors of Kodaly Today. This includes ENTIRE lesson plans to use in the classroom, as well as assessment rubrics, a song appendix, and book suggestions that connect with the lessons! This is going to save me so much planning time next year- I'll be able to actually focus on the activities and my teaching! Such quality materials AND a huge time saver! This book is great for any Kodaly trained music teacher, but it is clear and thorough enough that it could easily be used by any general music teacher as well. I've been waiting for this book to come out for a couple of years now and I am so excited about using this to plan my lessons for the kindergartners next school year!

YOU ARE SO LUCKY! I'm going to tell you about a new book! I have been waiting for years for this book to come out, and it's even better than I could possibly have imagined. It is a resource that is backed by years of research, field testing, and input from real teachers down in the trenches. I began implementing the Kodaly teaching strategies this last fall, and my students have responded unbelievably well. I spent hours each day on lesson plans for my 6 grade levels, and while the time I put in is paying off, I often feel the burnout from planning and not being sure I was doing Kodaly justice. NO MORE! This book has sequential lessons for an entire year...with a little leeway for times when you need to prepare a program or holiday music, for example. I am sure my planning time will be cut in half. PLUS, it comes with access to online resources and links to actual teachers teaching the actual concepts to actual children. Where else will you find that !? KKC also has a brilliant section which lists all kinds of children's books as they relate to the concept you're teaching. 30+ pages worth! If you teach Kindergarten music, you know how important this is.

I can't express how excited I am to start implementing this book this coming school year. I have a million books and downloads that supposedly teach you how to teach kinder/pre-k.... and they are all worthless. The new Kodaly in the Kindergarten Classroom book has everything you need, lesson plans, video recordings, resource lists, a list of children's books that line up with the lessons and to top it off--- explanation of WHY and how to understand the process. And for those of you out there who are in danger of losing your jobs, there is a nice section on music advocacy. Woohoo! The rest of the grade levels will be out later this summer and I can't wait to start those as well.

This is an amazing book. It has full lesson plans, how to use/tweak those plans, and all of the repertoire included! It also has background on the research that went into the making of this book. It offers resources to help you talk to administration about how what you're doing in your music class is helping the cognitive development of your students! It also gives you hundreds of literacy connections linked to the songs! You must read the whole thing, as there are words of wisdom on every page. You can clearly tell a lot of thought went into the organization and the materials included. These gentlemen really want the best for the field of music education. I can't wait for the rest of this series!!!
