Lovey incense
Wonderful, subtle scent. Visitors to my home almost always comment on how great it smells. Definitely hinoki forward but not overwhelming. It is true, as others have commented, that the smell is not super strong nor does it linger very long, but that’s okay with me. I prefer this Japanese style of light, tasteful incense overall.

Every Stick Changes the Moment
After trying out a bunch of different incense over the years, I have to say that Nippon Kodo incense sticks are some of my favorite. 1.) They burn clean and don't leave any bad residue, smells, or coarse ash/fibers. 2.) They smell pure and smell only like what they're supposed to. 3.) They burn for a reasonable amount of time (~20 to 35 minutes) and fall predictably, reducing potential fire hazards. 4.) They come in an awesome quantity that can last you a while whether you have one box, or a few types. 5.) They store easy in their boxes, unlike longer Indian/Bangla incense. It is important to note that these DO NOT HAVE WOODEN STICKS that can easily be inserted into some incense holders. These are ALL INCENSE, NO FILLER. They burn right down to fragrant ash, leaving some unburnt nubs depending on how you use them. While the smell might not linger around too long after burning, these incense sticks don't overstay their welcome and are kindful of their environment, perhaps embodying the Japanese spirit intended for this product. I try to have a box of every scent at all times so I can scent my office depending on my mood!

One of our favorites
This is one of my top three favorites of Japanese incense. I’ve tried about a dozen now and of them all, this is one in our regular rotation. Repeat purchase. It burns clean and is very fragrant. We love it.

The exact hinoki and cypress scent I was looking for!
I rarely leave reviews, but this one is just too good. I just returned from Japan where I purchased many incense. I was on the hunt for a cypress/hinoki smelling incense but didn't quite find the exact scent I was looking for. So I took a risk on purchasing this one and let me tell you...THIS IS IT! A nice cypress, smoky, wood scent. Very natural, not perfume-y. Also, you get a large size of 450 sticks, the biggest package of incense yet so it's a great value!

Almost but it claims to be
Wow, the fragrance is appealing. It’s not exactly what it claims to be.

Natural, Mild and Woodsy
This incense is truly low smoke as it says, which makes it perfect for indoor use. Upon opening the box, I was delighted to smell an earthy, pine like scent and see that it was actually made in Japan. When lit, it smells like a lemony, creamy, natural Mysore sandalwood campfire. It is soothing and gentle, it evokes memories of the fireplace in my childhood home. I can't believe how good it smells with virtually invisible smoke. You get a lot in the box, it will last me a long time. It really does remind me of camping in the woods. I usually burn stronger Indian incense outside, but this is very mild and I prefer to use it indoors so I can enjoy as much of the smell as possible because again, it makes very little smoke. I imagine it is much safer and cleaner, easier on the lungs than Indian incense.

I love this. It has the same sort of smell as a wood fire using very old and dry wood. Just perfect.

I can only reference what I know, so it may not be the ingredients exactly, but it's similar enough to what I know that I'll just reference that: this incense has a pleasant aroma of sweet frankinscence and a mild balancing from sweet wormwood when burning, but smells very floral in the box. This is the strongest of the three I've tried (also Moss Garden and Plum Blossom, both coreless, short style). The rest of my review is copy-pasted from the other two I've tried from this company because it is the same: I love all of the incenses from this company that I have tried (3), and they are all really nice, natural, and gentle. Great value too! I was pleasantly surprised because I was willing to accept it being less fragrant due to reviews, but I also have very sensitive smell and find most incenses to be overwhelming, so I wondered if it would actually be just right for me, and it is- for my whole family too. I only use all natural incenses, so it's not that I am used to artificial super-fragrances (I never use that type); the natural ones can be too much for me. They are shorter than regular bamboo core sticks, as they are coreless, so they need to be upright in a bowl with sand, or something that will not break them when inserted; they are delicate like all coreless incense. Also I love the packaging- all paper and subtle design, nice to open and close each time, and with inserts I can't read but they do look cute; they've become bookmarks (I just really like them). Really really nice. I will be buying from this company from this point on; I wish I had known about them earlier! I had been trying different companies with mixed results, but all three from this company are excellent and what I was hoping to find for years. Much respect to the family and its recipe: domo arigato.
