Moving to top floor apartment with Pioneer SW-8-K. Is this overkill or even needed for such a small sub? Better/cheaper alternatives for an 8"?

I don't think of this product as a way to prevent sound from moving through the building, but as a way of preventing unwanted room modes from 'muddying" the low frequencies. I have a number of these both the full size and the smaller version you are looking at and they do a tremendous job of adding clarity to the low frequencies, but I can still hear the bass downstairs in my basement. I would highly recommend the product, but I don't think it's going to prevent your neighbors from getting upset if you watch a Marvel film at a fairly loud level. Hope this helps.

Is there really much of a difference between the Subdude and Ampdude? Minus looks of course.

I'm not sure what ampdude is doing, subdude's foam seems to be proprietary. Meaning that r and d developed for this product seem to do something with the sound waves. That being said this design seems to bring a noticeable difference when placed under the sub.

Will this reduce the amount of bass that travels downstairs when my subwoofer is upstairs?

They should. If you have them on a wooden floor you can feel and hear the bass throughout the house. Resting your sub on it should reduced the boominess.I had the opposite problem. I had 2 Laradigm subs on my basement, resting in thin carpet on concrete. My bass was completely gone. The bass indidnhave was bloated and boomy. I added 2 of these and all of a sudden I could hear and feel my bass again. Best money I ever spent. I would also recommend the Auralex mopad for your center channel

If my subwoofer is 18 inches deep and this platform is 15 - is 1 1/2 inches overhang on the front and back going to be an issue?

Overhang won't be an issue as long as the spikes or whatever supports are used to hold the sub up off the ground will sit on the ampdude.

I didn’t just decouple the sub from the floor but I also elevated the position aprox 1 foot from ground almost near listening ear height level. Those 2 mods brought the clarity and clean bass sound to something I had not experienced before. I have dual Klipsch 12” subs and now they rest on a modern all wood long low profile media table vs on floor next to it. Even on the stand there is zero vibration no matter what volume is played at. It performs exactly as described.
