Rough & Ready
A previous, well used wooden shafted spade gave up the ghost 👻 whilst digging a resting place for our cherished family friend who is missed everyday. The job had to be completed hastily so having looked at local outlets, I couldn't find a suitable replacement without ordering into store etc. Quick look on A & this came up. I have a few Roughneck tools in my arsenal so knew instantly that the brand was a reliable & robust British manufacturer. I have never owned an American style spade before but was quickly converted. The long shaft makes digging a breeze particularly with soil removal as there is plenty of shaft to vary the fulcrum point making it easier on the arms and essentially, the lower back. Also, deeper holes can be tackled with the longer fibreglass shaft. On 1 side of the spade, there is a serrated edge which helps to remove awkward roots and such like, a good addition if there ever was one😁. The pointed spade face helps when inserting into the soil, less initial surface area equates to less resistance. The spade is well balanced and because of the well chosen materials, it is not heavy even after an hour or so of digging. Also, the yellow shaft helps when looking for it in a sea of other garden tools.Would I recommend, absolutely. A well priced, well made spade that would grace any tool collection & best of all, it's British 🇬🇧

Excellent digging spade
Brilliant digging spade. Dug a patio base section out with it. I thought I might miss the D handle but you get used to it quickly. The long pole makes it easier to work with because of a better balance and more leverage, better for your back too in my opinion. For info, this long handle spade is about 2.6kg, the D shape version is about 2.1kg. So the extra weight and the serrated edge both help to pierce the grass and soil fairly easily. Roughneck product is also very robust. Would highly recommend.

A real persuader!
Excellent quality. All metal construction with long handle and ideal for rough hard digging getting tree roots out etc. Expensive but you get what you pay for, it's a real persuader and is going to last an amateur gardener a lifetime. Great Value for money and virtually unbreakable..I dug up a mature hedge with it that a standard spade wouldn't touch and it hardly drew breath, its a monster! If you've got small trees, big shrubs to get out the ground then this is your boy. Downside is it's heavy but that's because it's so we'll made.

Well made.
Long handle removes the gardening backache.Although the spade looks light, the reality is that it is heavy and very strong.

Big.. Very Big
Good quality heavy duty spade. Exceptionally long handle and a bit on the heavy side. Did help complete our trench for our French drain but my wife found it too heavy.

The best shovel I've ever owned
I’ve only used it once so far, but I really enjoyed working with it. I had to dig through rough, stony ground, and it handled the job well. You wouldn’t think there’s much room for innovation in a shovel, but modern design has proved otherwise!I’m 187 cm tall, and the size of the shovel is just right for me. It’s also well-balanced and ergonomic, with a good weight to it.I wish my dad had garden tools like this back in his gardening days - it would have made the experience much more enjoyable than I remember :)
