Samsung SSD 980 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280, Up to 3,500MB/s

Why I ordered this item: I'm trying to breathe new life into an old computer that only has PCIe 3.0 and I needed a new drive. This was pretty much the top tier drive in its day, so I felt confident it would be a good option for me to use in this rebuilt gaming PC for my kid. Likes: * Install of NVMe drives is super easy. Plug it in, screw it in (don't lose the screw!) and install your OS. Connectivity is easy, and this will work on boards with newer PCIe versions too. * My computer detected it with no issues at all. I was able to install Windows easily. * It doesn't run anywhere near as hot as new drives, so no heatsink needed! It gets a little warm during operation, but I monitor my drives with software and it's not anywhere close to this drive's max temp. * Power consumption is almost neglible! * Speeds are excellent. Samsung truly was a leader with this drive and it still almost totally maxes out NVMe 3.0. * This is not super important, but it looks totally awesome. The label is so classy. No likes: * None Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, even at these inflated prices. Final thoughts: Maybe someday SSDs won't cost 4x what they did a year ago, but I'm still very happy with this drive and I can whole heartedly recommend it if you don't need PCIe 4 or 5.

Super reliable boot drive. Reed and write speeds are lightning fast. Samsung has a super easy to use software tool to transfer your data from another drive and set up as your boot drive.

Been using Samsung products ever since I swapped to SSDs. They are the best and provide reliable performance. I concurrently own the 850 EVO, 960 Pro, 960 EVO, 970 EVO Plus, 980 Pro and now the 980 all at 1 TB storage capacities. Each of them have been blazing fast, significantly faster than standard SATA SSD's. Clearly the 980 is an excellent NVMe drive. I cloned this ssd just using it for a backup drive. Currently I use 980 Pro. Actually I really cannot tell the difference between these two on a PCIE 3.0 motherboard. With a Asus ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming PCIE 3.0 motherboard, this SSD is stupid fast. Very happy with the performance. I agreed with the argument that NVMe PCI Express Gen 4 drives would likely not really make a huge difference over a fast the PCIe Gen3 SSD drives. I know PCIe Gen5 SSD is not far behind. Also the drives obviously cost more.  When connected through the M.2 to USB NVMe SSD Adapter, it could not be initialized. When I tried to initialize hard drive via Disk Management and receive error message such as “This request cannot be completed because of an I/O device error” or “The device is not ready”. The is something wrong with the hard drive connection cable or adapter. M.2 NVMe Interface Internal SSD drive is easily initialized in m.2 slot on motherboard. This also needs to be installed in the M.2 slot closest to the CPU which has a direct connection to the CPU. Using EaseUS Software, I imaged my existing 980 Pro 3-partition hard drive onto this SSD and it booted perfect and have not had a single problem. I bought one of these Samsung 1TB sticks about a year ago, and BAMM!! My laptop's read and write times got 6 times faster than the SATA SSD I was running... Windows loaded in mere seconds, vs. a minute... It doesn't sound like much, but as I advance in age toward my 60th year, A MINUTE IS A MINUTE SAVED... So when I saw this same model for $25 cheaper than the first one, I jumped on it... I bought it for my desktop I built 6 months ago... You just can't beat these Samsungs... I can't believe I can fit 1TB on this tiny stick... I still remember my first hard drive I ever had... It was an IOMEGA 30MB (yes, that's megabytes) for a Macintosh Plus... It was as big as a half-height cinder block, and had a cable as big around as my thumb (Centronics SCSI, I think)... Anyway, for gaming, how about NO LAG... Games load and play instantaneously, even the largest games... The 3 stars for EASY TO INSTALL has nothing to do with the stick itself... It's about my motherboard... The NVMe socket is located directly behind my video card... So when I was cloning OLD to NEW, I had to remove the video card, swap the sticks, and replace the video card... Because of the learning curve (screw-ups) of the cloning software I chose, that process took me 4 tries to get it right... Word of advice: If you choose to clone your NVMe stick, and you only have 1 slot on your motherboard, MAKE AN IMAGE of what you plan to clone first, and save it somewhere else... If you screw-up the cloning process, you'll have the image to try it again... Oh, by the way, you'll need to buy an external enclosure for the new stick for the cloning procedure... It's the only way to do it when you've only got 1 slot on the motherboard... When the process is complete, put the old stick into the enclosure, and you'll have it to transfer/share files with your buddies, or for permanent backup... GOOD DAY...

Bought this to put in a new Lenovo P360 Ultra that has an extra M2 slot. Installation was easy but the PC didn't recognize it. Called Lenovo tech support and we spent a long time trying and testing things but still no go. He said the new SSD was faulty. Then I went on vacation and came back and was going to return it, but my daughter got a new Dell PC with an empty M2 slot, so I tried it on there. Same thing. Dell tech support worked with me for a long time but also thought the firmware was bad. We did BIOS checks and everything on both, which are WIN 11 Pro machines. In both the drive would show up in Device Manager but not in Disk Management. By this time I had gone over 30 days and couldn't return it so I called Samsung directly for warranty service. The fellow in India asked all the same questions and then he asked if it was showing up in Storage Spaces. Huh? Never heard of that. I searched for it, and there it was. He walked me through deleting the entry and making a new storage space for it and --- BINGO --- there it was in File Manager.

Samsung makes a great product the 980 is a fast, reliable, long lasting hard drive that is an awesome fit for any compatible PC (and some that aren't) I got this NVME drive for my DELL XPS 15, which comes with one drive and a second expandable M.2 slot. With just a couple minutes of work the drive was up and running, the second time around anyway. The first one I got was dead on arrival but I got a replacement next day before the defective drive was even picked up. In tests the drive hit its claimed read/write times and it is fast enough for just about anything you need. I use this one when I'm video editing and gaming, both tasks it excels at. This is an awesome upgrade if you need more storage and especially if you are looking for more speed. It preforms many times faster than a traditional HDD (with the spinning disc) and is also much faster than a 2.5 in. ssd. It is also faster than a SATA M.2, basically NVME is what you want if your PC is compatible. If it's not this is also a great product to use in a high quality external NVME enclosure. You can use it as an external hard drive on the go or with multiple PCs or to back up important files. The NVME drives are also more durable than a drive with moving parts or even a 2.5 in. drive making it perfect to go in an enclosure that you can throw in your backpack without worrying about damage.

La unidad Samsung 980 es una maravilla. Ya tengo dos años con ella y ha funcionado a la perfección. Cuando la puse en mi computadora se sintió de inmediato la diferencia en rendimiento. La velocidad de carga es muy rápida y el rendimiento general del sistema ha mejorado significativamente. A pesar de que Samsung son lo mejor en SSD, no son muy costosos respecto a otras marcas. Recomiendo totalmente este SSD para cualquiera que quiera actualizar de un disco duro o SSD SATA a un M.2.

I needed a reasonably fast SSD that doesn't generate too much heat as it needs to run in a 24x7 environment that is passively cooled in a i7 1165G7 OpnSense Firewall box. This Samsung fits the criteria perfectly. I didn't went with the PRO model as i did for my Synology NAS 920+ as the NAS has good airflow and the PRO version has a nice efficient heat sink. It required some slight modifications to get the PRO version to fit the Synology but it is worth the effort. Overall i am very happy with the performance of this product as it works the first time and is offering a very stable performance. Shipping is fast. I highly recommend the product and seller.

SSD fácil de instalar e com alta performance. A taxa de leitura e escrita dele surpreende no dia dia. Inicia o sistema operacional e aplicativos muito rápido mesmo, os jogos carregam em questão de segundos também. Recomendo muito.
