Review: Not getting tired of Terry Brooks' Shannara books anytime soon. - Not getting tired of Terry Brooks' Shannara books anytime soon. Some might say they have grown repetitive or even formulaic, but that's because they haven't actually read them. There have been more Shannara books than can easily be counted by now, and some of the latest ones may lack the grandeur of the initial trilogy, but they always offer something new to discover about that world, and it's always a pleasure to go back to it.

A Great Epic Fantasy
The Defenders of Shannara series continues with "The Sorcerer's Daughter". The evil sorcerer Arcannen Rai and High Druid's Blade Paxon Leah have battled before. Now, their on-going fight will be taken to a new level. In the city of Arishaig, representatives from the Druid order and the Federation have met to work out their differences and build goodwill. But the initial good feelings are shattered when a magical creature is set free and manages to kill off most of the Federation delegation. Paxon immediately suspects Arcannen is to blame, but now, he and the remaining Druids must get out of Arishaig before the survivors of the Federation catch them. Meanwhile, Paxon's sister Chrysallin, possessor of the old wishsong magic, has been abducted from Paranor. Leofur Rai, Arcannen's daughter, friend of Leofur, and life partner of Paxon, sets off in search of Chrys. She instills the help of Imric, a stable hand from Paranor who holds a mysterious secret that, over time, will engulf both him and Leofur in ways they can't imagine. Throughout the course of the story, each group will encounter their own set of trials and tribulations that include a dragon, man-eating plants, and the gradual awakening of feelings that were totally unsuspected, along with the loss of love. "The Sorcerer's Daughter" is one of Terry Brooks' best works. The characters remain from the previous books in the "Defenders" series, and their struggles, both physical and emotional, are detailed from the very beginning of the story. Perhaps the character who experiences the biggest change is Leofur, for she goes through a complete change of perspective and feeling. As with all of the books by Terry Brooks, the story is fast-paced, loaded with action, and contains characters that the reader can relate to. Highly recommended.

this book will be a nice light read
If you are a terry brooks fan, this book will be a nice light read. It is very predictable, but Terry has a nice way of getting from the beginning to the end. You likely aren't reading this as it is the 3rd in a later series in Shannara, if you aren't already familiar with I'm, but he has a nice way of telling a story. It may have been very predictable to me as I have read all of his books and if you aren't as familiar, it may be new to you, but it is a good read. The reason I rate it 3 rather than higher is a couple of reasons - While a good read, about 1/4 through it was pretty clear how the end would be, it was just a question of how he would get there (which goes with my initial comment of while predictable, he writes a good story). The other reason is I am getting tired of homosexuality being pushed on us everywhere I look. Don't get me wrong, I don't care what people do in their bedroom, but it is sad that there is almost nowhere you can go for just nice, stories. For a segment of the population that is only 2.7% self identifying, we are getting bludgeoned by movies, TV, books over and over. It seems for the last few years of stories, Brooks has felt obligated to include these relationship in virtually every book. I am not looking for politics when I read fantasy stories, I am looking for escaping. The constant push of this lifestyle I just feel like I am being beat over the head with.
