Let me start by saying my grandfather was a shoemaker from the old country - which has led to me being a 3rd generation obsessive of leather, especially boots, bags, and shoes. I've been taking good care of all things leather since I was a teenager so I'm very picky and like to rely on the tried and true..... I've used saddle soap and mink oil for years on all kinds of boots, shoes and bags so when I bought a vintage coach purse that needed some help, I knew I was going to start with Saddle soap. Of course saddle soap works great but the leather was still very dull in color and somewhat dried out looking. While I usually follow up with mink oil on this type of smooth leather I decided to try the "leather milk" here. It really does have a lovely almond smell and it's liquid- so very easy to work with- leather will soak it up immediately. What's amazing is how quickly it brings out the natural color of the leather and leaves it looking bright and supple again- I was really amazed. I could have left the bag alone at this point, but I still wanted to recondition the leather with the heft of mink oil. After letting the bag dry for a day it was still soft and beautiful looking. The mink oil went on without issue and overall I feel like this bag looks like it's been professionally reconditioned. I also tried this on some Ugg boots I wear a lot in the winter. They are black nubuck so technically I don't think this is the right product to use overall for nubuck- however these are well worn black boots and I didn't mind them getting a little darker. The liniment went on easily and the boots soaked up all the good stuff easily. The nubuck looks brand new again. I have a new laptop bag of very fine smooth leather which will eventually need conditioning. While it might darken the leather, I'm sure this product will keep it beautiful for a lifetime. I'm so happy with this stuff I'm going to check out their other products- like water proofing treatment. It looks like they started as a saddle bag company and developed their own treatment with good ingredients that are healthy for humans and the environment. I have to appreciate the humor of the last note on the instructions on the back of the bottle- " to help stimulate our ailing economy, buy and use more than you need". You can't use too much of this, your leather will love it, and I'd be happy to buy more from this independent company. - Update: I just used this product on my partner's gnarly Chippewa boots. If you're not familiar with these boots they are monster slip on work boots with steel toes. He put them on without treating them with anything and proceeded to chew up the front toes and drop all kinds of oil, dirt and junk on them. They were so dirty that I had to saddle soap them first but then after letting them dry the liniment product went on easily and the leather just soaked it up like a sponge. Again- the leather became darker but with all the little oil stains already on the boots, the product evened out the tone of the leather and left it looking beautiful. Not much can be done about the frayed leather on the steel toes, but this treatment will preserve the leather better than anything I've found. I'll put a coat of mink oil on these and water proof them, but the leather milk really brought the life and health back to this leather ! Still a big fan :-)

I must admit I read hundreds of leather treatment reviews before purchase. Leather milk did get good reviews and none of those got it free, great product reviews either. It does look like milk but sucks used in cocoa. It has a mild pleasant smell that is gone in a day, kind of nutty and mildly piquant. My fears were color change, major effort to apply and messy and of course not doing leather any good. It is also a little discerning not knowing the ingredients. In actual use application is straightforward and satisfying. My project was a $1400 chair, 3 years old, with ottoman, in a medium brown I love. First reaction was amazement. The finish came alive and most scratches and flaws vanished immediately. I deliberately avoided 1 arm and did 2 applications on the other. After a few hours most of this rejuvenation vanished. The areas with two coats remained better and scratches reappeared but only about half as visible as before I started. The second day I put a third coat on the test arm. For about a week I used the chair daily and constantly ran my hands comparing feel of treated and untreated arm. The difference was minimal but the treated arm did feel slightly less dry which could be the heavy massaging with cream (milk) that has to have some effect. That end product looks pretty much the same as before, but most areas that were getting a little dry or dusty now looked like new. My chair looks and feels great, not shiny, not greasy, not smelly. My only concern is it helping long term condition of leather as well as some other product, since ingredients are a "secret". This is where we have to trust the manufacturer. They seem like an honorable company that is proud of their product. In a nutshell, good product, good company, good results--- I will buy more,

This is a leather conditioner for dry leather. It is easy to apply. It is like a white cream and it comes with a pad to apply it. It is very easy to apply. It would be hard to over condition your leather with this if you were waiting for it to dry completely between applications. I used it on a vegetable tanned goat leather briefcase that had already been darkened to the right color. It conditioned the really dry leather very well and did not seem to darken it further. I am waiting a day or two between applications while I have stuffed the briefcase to reshape it. It was packaged and shipped flat and needs to be stuffed to look how its supposed to for a time before use. After a time the stuffing will be removed and it will not revert to flattened. Its very important not to over condition the briefcase and make it limp or floppy. Now I like my purses limp and floppy and very dark so I use a different product on that. But this is the only conditioner I'd want to use on this briefcase. With other conditioners I find I use more product to get similar results to Leather Milk #1. I have used less product for each application and may have left over product. I would end up using probably twice as much Leather Honey to do a project. (The Leather Honey seems to darken the leather more.) So the value per dollar is closer between brands than I expected. A little goes a long way with Chamberlain's products. I do trust this product. It is easy to use and get good results from even if you have never conditioned leather before. I intend to always have this on hand.

Works nicely but I came back to buy again and it has doubled in price in the last few years. No thanks.

There isn't more that can be said about this product that other reviewers haven't already said... except that this stuff is MAGIC. Scratches on my leather disappear after application. Even my favorite scratches. Yes, I have favorites. And I'm sure for those of you who love leather, you do too. You know the ones I'm talking about? The ones that you keep inspecting after you get them? Yeah, those. You probably don't call them "favorites," but why then, do you keep checking up on them as if they were a 'favorite' sick friend? When I first started using it, I was somewhat doubtful. I have some very light colored leather products, and I was somewhat anxious about them getting stained a darker shade. Nevertheless, I took a chance, and put copious amounts of this magic liquid all over my light colored leathers (Tobacco Brown from Saddleback if anyone's curious). I figured that if I could get an even coating all around, I'd be 'ok' with it being a little darker. maybe. EDIT: Please do note that your lighter colored leathers may still darken regardless as they age, either from frequency of use (and the oils in your skin), or just being brought out in the sun! This patina is normally sought after! Obviously while wet, the leather did look darker, and makes it a little easier to spot the places that you haven't applied the liniment to. Use the darkness. Let it be your guide. If you are like me, you want to get the stuff into those little folds too. You might spend a little time caressing the bag, smelling this lovely liniment as its being applied to the bag. Sometimes, you might even... place a light kiss or two on the bag. maybe. Anyway, no worries if you get the stuff on your lips, this potion is ALL NATURAL. Drink it mixed in with your whiskey, I did. maybe. By the way, the darkened parts of the leather returned to their original coloring within an hour or so (I sneakily compared it to some spots that I missed... or did I miss them? Is 'sneakily' even a word?). Give it a bit of time to get adjusted. The bag is all confused as to whats going on, the liniment is all like, 'Where am I?" be patient with them. Let them work their magic on each other at their own pace. I also used this on other branded products. One example: My wife loves "Hermes" leather goods. Yeah. One bag is like 800 of my Saddleback bags, and she tells me that I have too many bags. Go figure. Anyway, one day I was messing around with her stuff... maybe. And... oops! Something 'may' have scratched it. I mean, I 'found' a scratch on it. Slightly desperate, I grabbed my Chamberlain's and dabbed it on. 20 minutes later, no marks. Couldn't even find the original scratch (and I tried - there was just too much riding on the line!)! When it dried, it was completely smooth. No splotches, no marks. I didn't even apply a smooth and even layer all around (I was not sure what would happen to the leather, and wanted to 'mitigate damages' as it is sometimes called). Saved my @$$ is what it did. Now, I couldn't say that it would 'heal' deep scratches. But for those minor everyday scratches, you might be surprised! Chamberlain's Leather Milk Liniment No. 1 is basically my 'go to' conditioner whenever I have a leather question. And it tastes great with whiskey! maybe. For those of you who hate it, I'm sorry for you. I hope you can find something you love. I love this liniment merely for the above sited example, and I plan on staying with Chamberlain's Leather Milk for my leather care until my kids inherit my stuff. Then, I'm going to tell them to go with it as well. Yeah, from beyond the grave. My kids are going to go to some fortune telling oracle or something, ask if there is any bit of wisdom that 'dad' wants to tell them, and the oracle is going to say, "He says to use Chamberlain's Leather Milk Liniments on his leather." It will be that creepy. Finally, I trust it. No maybe's about it. For those of you who think I might be affiliated with this company in some way, would I really mention the brand of bags that my wife prefers if I were? Probably not. And I'm pretty sure that Leather Milk representatives would not tell you to drink the stuff either (with your whiskey - though they might tell you to do it with your morning coffee...) maybe. For my birthday, my wife bought me a Saddleback wallet in the lightest possible color, and I absolutely loved it. It had tremendous character, and it aged beautifully over the first few months of its life in my pocket. Hands down, it was the best wallet I had ever owned. Then we went to an amusement park. And we went on an inner tube ride. And we all got soaked. Twice. I didn't realize the mistake I'd made until we went to attempt to dry out and I pulled my wallet from my pocket. It was soaked through. The leather had absorbed a lot of water and was now very dark in color. I panicked. But I remembered reading on the Saddleback web site that Dave Munson had had a similar experience and had simply let his piece dry, then treated it with some of this Chamberlain's Leather Milk and voila, it was good as new. I ordered some as soon as I got home from the park. It arrived a few days later and I waited until the weekend to use it, because I just couldn't live without my wallet and I wasn't sure how long the treatment would take. I had let the wallet dry for a full day before putting it back into use, and it had mostly recovered but I wanted to ensure its long life. It really is that amazing. So I opened the bottle, took out the provided applicator pad, and rubbed a bit of the conditioner on the back side of the wallet, which soaked it right up. I rubbed in a little more until it appeared that the wallet had a good, consistent coating, then did the same on the other side. The inside came next. I stood the wallet up on its end (after treating the end-grain as well) leaving it open in a v-shape to let the Leather Milk soak in and dry. By the time I came back from doing yard work a few hours later, it was mostly done, but I gave it a few more hours to be safe. I buffed the wallet with a soft cloth and it's as good as new, if a bit darker and a bit smoother than before (the untreated wallet had a soft, almost sueded quality that it no longer has, but that's a pretty minor quibble and I suspect it would have lost that over time regardless). If you're expecting some nasty-smelling liniment, you're in for a treat. I can't be sure whether it's vanilla or almond, but this stuff smells incredibly nice, and the resulting post-treatment leather, instead of smelling of vanilla (or almond) just smells nice and leathery again. Only time will tell whether this product actually extends the life of my wallet, but I know I'll be re-treating it every 6 months or so just to be safe. For leather that you want to keep around for a good long time, this is pretty inexpensive insurance.

I opened this up as soon as it arrived because I couldn’t wait to use it as our leather furniture has been taking a beating from our little dog getting up there and scratching the couches like he’s looking for a spot to lay. It did not change the color at all, but it gave it a little bit of moisture and even out the scratches some, not taking them away, but I will continue to use this product because it didn’t change color stain and it just seemed to renew the couch look even though it’s already a weathered look. I’ll post photos but I wish I’d taken them before ones because the scratches were 90% worse and now I’m actually happy with it because it kind of go in with the weather look at the couch.

I was looking at every review possible and YouTube tutorial to try and find something to use on my camel colored Midori Traveler's Notebook that wasn't going to darken the leather color into a medium or dark brown. I finally decided to try using this because I was already planning to keep it and use it on my Saddleback Leather desk pad anyway to condition it. On the label for this bottle, it does warn you that it may darken lighter colored leathers and to test in a discreet area first. I decided to take a chance and use it on my small passport notebook since I didn't really care as much about the outcome on that notebook as much as I do on my larger one. (I apologize that the photos may be slightly blurry as I was trying to take the photo with one hand while holding the journals.) These photos were taken during the day 24 hours after when I applied the product onto the notebook by a window with natural light but not direct bright sunlight. The larger regular sized camel notebook in these photos are WITHOUT any treatment at all (how it normally looks when you first receive the notebook). Main thoughts: It conditions the leather nicely. I feel like the texture and feel of the leather is the same if not maybe just a bit softer with the conditioner compared to without conditioner. You can see that on the front of the journal the difference between the two journals is barely noticeable. However, on the back of the journal there seems to be a more noticeable difference. From what I can see in person, it doesn't look darker as if it is turning into a dark brown color - but it looks warmer-toned. I'm not sure why that is - whether it's because of the leather itself since it's a natural product or how I rubbed the conditioner on it. If I lay the passport flat, it doesn't look like there is any difference between the front and back cover. I used this stuff VERY SPARINGLY because I was worried about whether it would significantly alter the color. I barely used a quarter-sized amount for the entire passport notebook and was very careful to evenly spread the conditioner on the applicator pad first - making sure that the conditioner absorbed into the pad FIRST before rubbing it onto the notebook. If you put too much of this on the leather, I think it WILL make the camel color significantly warmer toned and potentially if you put way too much on, it MAY darken the color significantly. I noticed on the applicator pad that some of the color of the notebook came off on the pad but nothing too extreme that is worrisome. It's to be expected for leather products. Overall: I think this is a good leather conditioner overall and I do plan to use it for other purposes like I mentioned before. BUT, if you are planning to use this for the camel traveler's notebook and you are 100% adamant about keeping the color EXACTLY as how you first received it, I can't fully recommend this product because as of 24-hours after application, I do see a very slight difference in the tone of the color. It's not for the worse (thankfully) in turning into some really dark brown shade, but there is a warmer tone to it for now. Most conditioners will alter the color of the leather slightly when you first apply the product since it's wet so I don't know if the notebook will return back to exactly how it was and be identical to my larger traveler's notebook in a few days (it's only been 24hrs so far). I will try to remember to come back to post an update if there's been any significant changes later on.

I purchased several other brands (Ruskins etc.) which were actually all okay BUT I found this one to be the best for my leather car seats. It is a little thicker than I would like as you apply it, but it melts/absorbs in very nicely - if you put too much it will leave a powdery residue which can be removed, though is not easily removed. It has an almond-like/coconut smell but that does not linger; it does not have a leather smell if that's what you are after (usually only those with faux leather are looking for that :)). You will use a fair amount because of its consistency not really being like "milk" (more of a cream) but as I said it absorbs very well. I also found the material covered sponge that it comes with works extremely well for this particular product too. It is in the higher price bracket of conditioners available.: I have purchased another bottle for future use - plan to use it every 6-12months.

After a lot of research I found this product to be the most commonly recommended product for use on antique leather. I used it on a very beaten up antique leather trunk and it took the leather from a very dry scratched patchy black, to a shiny smooth black. It hid all but the worst of the damage. I don't feel any sticky residue and the leather still looks great a couple months after using it. There is also no harsh chemical smell, it actually smells quite nice and once it is dry it has no smell.

Auf den Versuch wollte ich es nicht ankommen lassen. Das vorher offenporige angerauhte Leder schliesst sich, wodurch es minimal dunkler wirkt. Das ist aber keine stofffärbende Wirkung, sondern nur durch die Veränderung der Lederoberfläche bedingt. Absolute Empfehlung!
