Stake to ground
Directions are sketchy, but I was able to build in 45 minutes. Gotta stake it to the ground or it will blow over.

Assembly is miserable, but the finish is good!
Assembly was so hard!!! The finished windmill is stunning and seems to be pretty sturdy. BUT the instructions are not very well done. Even the pics are iffy. My hubby and I assemble alot.of things, but this took 3 hours and lots of redoing!! Do yourself a favor and have help, a good workbench, a ladder and time. I hope my mom loves it cause its her Mothers Day gift. Now for Tylenol and a hot pad!

Very solid, smooth and quiet for the price!
Well after opening the package and looking over all the parts, my first thought was yes the fan and tail themselves are built fairly solid, but as for the rest of the framework...I thought to be very flimsy. But I said to myself for $59, guess it isn't too bad. So, I started assembling it together.... the instructions that came with it are almost useless except for some dark pictures that give you an idea of what goes together and if it weren't for the measurements on the parts list, some parts wouldn't be identified. Illustrations show to install washers here... you can't see anything as the picture is so dark. So, anyway, give yourself a good hour and half to figure it all out and once assembled I was surprised at how solid the framework was! I used the anchors provided and drove them in the ground at angles towards the center of frame so that any high winds would not pull this over easily, but if you have winds in excess of 20mph, I'd suggest heavier and longer stakes, especially in soft top soil. So this thing is really quiet and smooth. I added sewing machine oil to the bearings on the fan. Overall this is really a very nice product for the price! Don't be fooled by all the flimsy pieces, once assembled it's a solid frame. I will recommend this to my friends and family. I'm 65+ years old and a little common sense goes a long way in assembly on this. Update: had it a few days and no issues, today winds were 45mph with gusts up to 60mph and this windmill is still sitting solid on the ground and wow it's SPINNING SO FAST!!! Great windmill! 4/6/2026...One year later, still as solid as the 1st day! Has withstood the highest winds (important to anchor the bottom firmly to the ground). I lube it now and then with lithium grease to maintain silent movement. I plan to add a kinetic light to it by placing magnets on the 3 frame pieces from Shaft and mounting the light so that magnets pass by at each spin to light it up, think this will look great at night and also give me an idea of wind speed at night.

Cheap, flimsy made Chinese junk!!!
I don't leave reviews on things very often but this is one cheap made peice of junk that nobody should be guilty of buying. Only China would ship out such a flimsy made peice of merchandise. The metal frame of this thing is not much thicker than sheet metal. The nuts and bolts are very soft and easy to strip, not to mention it doesn't even come with washers or nylon locking nuts. Thing will probably fall apart after a week if a slight wind doesn't fold it up first. As for directions.....might as well throw them away because they are black and white pictures that are blurry and the wording might as well be written in Chinese because it makes no sense. I've put windmills this size from Tractor Supply and other hardware stores together before. Sure, they are twice as much in cost, but it's well worth it to get an item that isn't as cheap made and flimsy as this thing is. Other people who purchased this windmill and say it's good quality must have received a totally different quality of product than what I got in the mail. Buyer beware!!! Do Not Purchase unless you want a cheaply made, flimsy sheet metal framed windmill put together with hardware made of something softer than aluminum. Almost ashamed to give this thing to my Dad for a Christmas present.

Great windmill for the yard!
Great product! Easy to put together. Would opt for some bigger stakes to keep from tipping during high winds. Great to see each morning to see how windy the day will be. Very quiet when spinning.

Ball bearing is a joke
The ball bearings are pressed into the vane assembly properly but when you go to slide the assembly on to the shaft the fit is way too loose. There should be enough friction to lock the inner race onto the shaft so the spinning motion is the balls between the inner and outter races. Instead you just have the inner race spinning on the shaft, metal on metal, which just wears the shaft down because it's the softer metal. That wear causes the vane to wobble which can turn into an extreme vibration in high winds. That's what happened to mine to make me need to replace it. Either a proper machine fit or oil lite bushings instead of bearings. The bearings are useless as is.

Terrible instructions / Awesome product
Yep, terrible instructions. To be honest though, it kind of made it fun. There's not a whole lot of parts to this thing and all the nuts and screws are the same size. My son and I spent maybe 30 minutes putting it together and laughing at each others mistakes. Honestly though for the price, it's really pretty good quality. Nice little backyard edition.
