Comprehensive and easy to read!!
I am a “wanna-be” photographer. When I finally bought my first DSLR camera, the Nikon D3200, I was completely overwhelmed. I did not spend that kind of money on a camera so I could shoot in automatic mode. So I bought the “Nikon D3200 for Dummies” by Julie Adair King. The book is a very detailed, comprehensive guide on the camera, written in easy to understand language. The first chapter explains every aspect of your cameras many setting and controls, what they are for and how to use them. There are many graphics used for reference. The second chapter explains which settings to use in different situations. The book also devotes a significant section to shooting movies with the camera, which I pretty much skipped since I don’t really do much of that. The book does have a chapter on shooting in automatic, if that is what you prefer to do. It explains the most basic information, such as sharing and printing photos, viewing and editing and using memory cards. It also goes into great detail about manipulating color and focus, and how to creatively use exposure. In typical “dummies” fashion, the book also gives warnings, quick tips and technical info, which are highlighted by the usual “dummies” icons. (If you have ever read a dummies book, you know what I am referring to.) Ms. King is a seasoned professional photographer. She uses her own beautiful photos, as well as the photos of others, to provide easy to grasp examples of the different photography techniques and the results from using various settings. At the end of every chapter there are “assignments” to help you master the techniques from the chapter. Hands on is the best way to learn photography, after all. If you truly want to master your Nikon D3200, I totally recommend this book!

Really easy read and very informative
I debated on cameras back and forth and decided to go with the Nikon D3200. All of my friends have canons and scolded me on buying a Nikon. After reading this book and understanding the features of this camera they are the ones wanting to use it now! (24 MP is awesome!!) This was my very first "dummies" book and found it a very easy and informative read. This book has a lot of step by step instruction and helpful hints about the camera. I have taken a B&W photography class (6 years ago) where we developed our own prints (old school) and this is my first SLR camera, big difference. The book had a few chapters about using the camera to enhance your photography skills, which got me back into the swing of things. This book could benefit a basic photographer as well as someone who just needs info about the camera. I'm happy I picked up the camera and the book to go with it, really made me feel more comfortable about my purchase and this book will be used for future references.

Can’t go wrong if this is your first Nikon dslr
I’m a beginner and the Nikon was my first camera. After 5 years and reading countless books on “how” to take pictures, I realized that I didn’t know my camera like I should. Look, i like the For Dummies series because they break down the information so it’s easy to understand. This book is no different. It explains every feature of the Nikon and how to use those features in a variety of settings. I’d recommend buying this book if the Nikon is your first dslr or, if after several years of taking pictures, you still don’t know every function on your camera.

Great source of information!
Well, I have had this camera for close to 10 years. There was stuff that slipped my mind, by reading this I learned a whole new set of information to make my photography absolutely perfection.

Great book and a great replacement for the Nikon manual
A lot of people have stated that they find the layout of the book disarming. Frankly, I don't think a beginner's book of this nature could have been laid out much better. I find the chapter divisions to be well thought out and well presented. Yes, you have to do a little bit of page shuffling if the author refers to something that she will detail in the future. But big deal. At least she tells you the place in the book to go and look if you are itching to jump ahead. All in all, I struggled through the Nikon manual (which is actually pretty good, but it is tedious and dry) and still didn't feel proficient with my new camera. I bought Miss King's book and I immediately found myself in a much better place in only three chapters. This is a great substitute for the Nikon provided instruction manual.

Exactly what I needed
This book is exactly what I was looking for! The first few chapters outline what every button and menu function does with an easy to understand definition. The book works from the simple to the complex which means a lot less frustration when learning new things. The later chapters deal with more of the specifics of the camera (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, flash). Even if you are familiar with all of these things, this book will surprise you with some interesting details about the Nikon D3200. I highly recommend this book because it's way more in depth than the manual the camera comes with (somewhat of a nightmare to read if you're not familiar with the definitions of functions). This book will tell you the what, how and why of basic to advanced DSLR shooting. You won't be disappointed!

A Good Place to Start for Beginners
This book is a "must have" for beginners with their first DSLR NIkon D3200 camera. Yes, there are probably better books for this camera, even on Amazon.com. But I had to start somewhere. Nikon's manual for the camera, while complete in its description, does not tell you fully what features are appropriate for what circumstances. The "Nikon D3200 for Dummies" provides a lot of useful tips, explanations, and best practices that not only apply to the D3200 but probably to most DSLR cameras. And the book's price is a pittance compared to what you will spending for all the accessories you will want for your camera!

I love these books for "DUMMIES" and this one is no exception. I am now a pensioner but I do have a technical back ground, having spent many years building and repairing digital gaming machines. I'm not a new comer to photography either. But having just brought my first DSLR camera and struggling for a few days with the camera manual I thought it wise to buy an easy to read introduction to my camera. This book is a very easy to read and comprehend guide to the Nikon 3200 DSLR camera, it's beautifully illustrated and logically laid out. The author Julie King makes the point very early on in the book that the user can use the camera in a point and shoot mode right from the off and get into the more technical and artistic aspects of the camera later on as their knowledge and experience grows. The book is much more than just a reference manual, I have started at page 1 and I'm reading through the whole book so that I don't miss a single detail of my camera no matter how small. The book is packed with interesting information presented by someone who clearly has a great in-depth knowledge of cameras and photography. This is a great book in the " for DUMMIES" series, and don't be put off buy the title. It's an interesting, easy to read, comprehensive guide to the Nikon D3200. A great guide for experienced photographers and for novices, both young and old. Remember you're never too old to learn a new subject no matter how technical it is and that's the purpose of books like this one.

Much, much better than the materials that came with the camera. If you have spent the money to get this camera, spend the extra to get this book! The author explains clearly not just how to do something, buy WHY you would do it. It is maybe a bit too basic and condescending at times, but then that is what the Dummies books are for, people who are totally clueless about a subject. But it is easy to skip over the stuff you already know and get to the meat. In just a day, I had found new things about how my camera works plus found easier ways to do things. And as I said before, I learned why/when to use a feature that I knew existed but didn't think I needed to use.
