Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel & the Christianity We Haven't Tried Yet

I have listened to this book, read by the author, several times and experienced laughter, tears, chills and a heartfelt knowing each time. I have also read the text in paperback and enjoyed it in that form and have bought and shared numerous copies of the paperback and audible versions. The combination of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, interspersed with Meggan's stories and experiences, was a life-altering take on the story of Jesus, the sacred relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and what Christianity can be at its good, true, eye-of-the-heart source.

Every man, woman and child should read this side of the story that has been hidden from the bible. This book has been thoroughly researched by a theologian giving it maximum creditability. It puts the bible to shame for excluding such a powerful woman. They called her a whore. She was not. They ripped, burned and buried the truth of Mary Magdalene and her connection to Jesus who loved her dearly. A companion? I'd say, bluntly, that she was his wife. As in the time of Jesus, Jewish men were expected to take a wife and I doubt he was no exception. If you want the truths, read this book. If you want to ignore the facts keep believing in a religion that excludes the feminine contribution that has been erased from the bible. Truths have a way of always rising to the top. Now my heart is satisfied for what I always knew was not right in the bible but had no proof. Well, except for the multiple errors, such as God creating mankind in his image, therefore: male and female. Then a few pages later, God has a brain fart, forgetting he made human males and females, and created Adam and from his rib popped Eve. And for this and many other reasons that degrade women, I have distanced myself from its writings and the churches. Now, I have the true teachings of Jesus and Mary and need little more. It is a page turner of a book. Thank you for such in-depth research of the lost scrolls. This is a great book! A master piece of writing.

This book is especially meaningful for anyone drawn to the divine feminine, healing religious trauma, or reclaiming a deeper relationship with faith that includes women’s voices. A soulful, empowering read.

I am marking this a 4 because the author is all about love and notes that she gets self-conscious about her work, but I honestly felt some parts of the book were a 3 and others 4. I finished the book not feeling like I learned much about Mary Magdalene, but a whole lot about a LGBTQ’s woman’s ADHD pick-and-choose feminist beliefs based on various things she read in Divinity School, an adventure to France, and things she sees when she meditates. ~5% of the book is scripture, 25% is about Mary Magdalene and 70% is a hodgepodge of various scripture, empowered women spiritual stories, miscellaneous spiritual stories, and then synchronicity’s that connect all of the above to the author’s life. It’s pretty scattered. Still, she manages to tie most of her ideas together, and I read the whole book because I too have a short attention span and enjoy personal narratives and the stories she shares. I’d 100% recommend this book to feminists and lesbians who perhaps walked away from their faith or relationship with Christ and are seeking a new perspective to connect again. It’s empowering to know there is a reason why the church developed to be so male centric, and why the Gospel of Mary was cut out in the first place. To those who are curious about what the Gospel of Mary actually says and want to interpret for themselves- 100% skip this. You won’t find that here. You’ll find a whole lot of feminist biases. She spends a lot of the book promoting Magdalene’s unique teachings about the aspects of the ego, and then explains her interpretations of them in the middle of the book for about 7 pages, and not a lot of insight with how to navigate them. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the missing Gospel. I’m still mystified that the exact pages of the book are missing in all three ultra rare copies of the recovered texts.

In recent years I have been drawn to Mary Magdalene (and this in time brought me to Meggan Watterson). Suffice to say she is engaging, accessible, thought provoking and in a profound way provides a leap forward for someone seeking spiritual union. That union I have begun to experience in the past ten years after decades of seeking and learning is a journey within. Great spiritual teaching isn't impossibly theoretical. It is intimate. Thank you for your writing and your wonderful monthly teachings.

This book is truly life changing! I was feeling lost in my spiritual practice and frustrated with the dogmatic and patriarchal religious system I grew up in and that maybe there was something wrong with me about why I just couldn’t connect to what was being shared in church. Also, I kept bringing up to people in my life the question, I wonder how different the Bible would be if it was written by women?, and female friends (who are very religious) would say huh I’ve never thought of that. Then I heard Meggan Watterson on the We Can Do Hard Things podcast and my worldview literally exploded in the best way. I felt seen, heard, validated by her sharing of Mary Magdalene’s gospel. Learning about Mary’s perspective in this book has made me want to read the Bible and learn more about Jesus’ life through her lens. Every chapter in this book has a pearl of wisdom. I have the book on audiobook too because I feel like I need to keep reading and listening over and over to solidify this new worldview that has given me inspiration and peace. Thank you Meggan for sharing about Mary, this book is truly amazing.

This book touched me on a deep level. It is a perfect blend of theology and personal story, written in a style that is engaging, fun, funny, deep, intense and heartfelt. I found myself alternating tears and laughter, all the while noticing that memories were surfacing and that something new was churning within me. Meggan Watterson is not just knowledgeable about the facts surrounding the life of Mary Magdalene, she is also brilliantly insightful when it comes to turning inside out what Mary was made into by the Church. As she does so, we are able to understand ourselves more fully, we are able to see aspects of ourselves that have been dormant, overlooked, understated, and even reviled. We are able to remember the truth of who we are and this truth is profound, for it is the language of the heart; it is the truest of all loves. I found the pages of this book to be filled with healing transmissions. I'm changed as a result of it. Not only do I have a greater understanding of Mary and her gospel, but I also understand myself more fully. I'm more at home in my body. This is a book I will return to again and again as I feel like there are layers to the integration of the information and the transmissions that it contains. I'm filled with gratitude and a deep desire that these words find their way deep into the heart of our world and our culture for they are revolutionary in their healing effect.

I absolutely love this book. The writing is so relatable and made me laugh at multiple points. I also found my own spiritual practices deepened from reading this book. I appreciate this so very much. This was truly the Christianity I needed.

Loved the humour & insight in the book. Thanks to the author for writing it. I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to understand their spiritual bearings, irrespective of their religion. Iam not a Christian, but still, it gave me a lot of insight on how to reach the higher power, which is right inside us. I don't know, if I'll ever be successful in finding that peace/connection with God that Iam looking for.......But I would surely recommend this book to anyone who is on a spiritual quest & is open to learning. I've never read anything of the Mary Magdalene story and was not particularly looking to do so until I came across this wonderful book which was wrapped in so many 5 star reviews, that I felt compelled to read it. This is a truly beautiful book that seeks to reframe the early history of Christianity and to liberate the power that by birth right belongs to us all (both male and female) that the church so greedily sequestered all those years ago. The author writes poetically and gently at times and at others more fiercely to reveal her own truths on her spiritual journey as she relays the teachings of Mary Magdalene. There are so many gems of original writing, themes and insights that makes it a book of great importance if we are to fully integrate our history and reclaim our sense of worth in a culture that is misguided by the insatiable quest to acquire material worth, power over others, and supremacy. Of course this book is so much more and what is notable is the authors ability to penetrate deeply into the current ways of how we have become disconnected from what is true and what is real. So much resonates that I can not recommend this book highly enough and for anyone that does choose to read it expect a course correction in understanding of this great religion and a personal healing in what was taken from us. I purchased this book for my mother, and she rates it very highly. Well written and concise. My mother has done quite a bit of study of Mary Magdalene, and found this book fascinating and thought provoking.

I am so utterly grateful to have found this amazing read! I loved all of Meggan’s personal stories and absolutely adored the wisdom of her son. Thank you for sharing him with us! I loved also having Meggan’s card deck to pull cards while journeying through the books pages. It was a deeply impactful experience. I will be gifting this book this year to all the important women, wisdom seekers and keepers that have impacted my life.

Mary Magdalene Revealed is one of my favourite books because by reading it I end up in a state of deep contemplation. Sometimes by reading the book or listening to the audiobook it also feels like a meditation to me. Personally I am able to relate very well to Watterson's personal journey she shares in the book. Her interpretation of verses from Mary's gospel is unique and refreshing. According to the author Mary Magdalene was the only person who was able to fully perceive Christ in her heart and this was the reason she had also been His first apostle, the apostle to the apostles. In my opinion Mary Magdalene Revealed can be categorized as Christian mystic literature.
