What happen s when a battery operated engine comes to a non mechanical switch?

In my experience the *non* mechanical switches always send the train the same way. For the L1 and M1 configurations shown here, they always send the train straight. For the X-shaped intersection, the train always goes through the intersection. I have not had many issues with derailing. This is all with using the powerful green Brio engine (AA battery, little light in front).
