Move, Connect, Play: The Art and Science of AcroYoga

This is the Acro-bible written by the guy that dreamed the activity up.
We are rock climbers, reasonably fit, healthy people. Recently, we had the good fortune to meet Jason Nemer unexpectedly on a trip. I immediately fell in love with him. He's quirky, original, cool, open minded, generous, thoughtful. I'm a pretty big guy, 6'1" and ~200lbs. Jason threw me in the air like I was a toy. Then he introduced my partner and I to the joy of acro yoga as a way to exercise, connect, play, and relate. So I was excited to look to this book as an extension of the lessons we've already received and I am really impressed and proud of the comprehensive bible of acro yoga written so carefully by one of the creators of the sport. LIke rock climbing, I think it's good to augment the book with some practical teaching from an experienced instructor or facilitator, because it's just safer. But if that's not available in your area and you want to go solo, this book does an amazing job of revealing the practices and thoughts that make it so enjoyable and expansive. I appreciate the personal touches of Jason's philosophy and thoughts that are sprinkled through the book and it adds color to what might otherwise be only an excellent reference. All together, this book lives happily on my bookshelf and kindle and travels with me to the park, the crag, vacation, for reference when we want to try the next expansion in our acro yoga practice. If you are really lucky and come to Austin, you might even be able to take instruction from and share space with Jason, who is a world class human being.

Insightful, instructional, & Inspiring! Came to learn AcroYoga, left a better human & partner
What a book! While it's by far best book on the market to learn Acroyoga, written by the founder of Acroyoga himself, Jason Nemer, it's so so much more. The book breathes insight into our daily way of life and how we can enrich it through movement, connection, and play. The layers of Acroyoga are deep - trust, partnership, therapeutic, fear, joy, physical, energetic, etc. As a yogi, I appreciated the detailed instructional diagrams throughout, with descriptions, and coaching/safety tips. Also, I appreciated the underlying yogic philosophy and principles shared in palatable and practical way. While I still don't practice Acroyoga every day (still a work in progress), the insights, lessons, and wisdom from this book have become integrated into my daily way of life to better play, connect, and move, and most importantly, to be a better human and partner. Highly recommended.

Anyone can do, but not everyone can teach. Luckily, Jason Nemer can teach.
Just because you understand a concept does not mean you can pass on the information to others. Jason Nemer has decades of experience, but more importantly he has the rare ability to share it with others in a way that is easy to follow and almost guarantees success. The book is laid out in a systematic way that is easy to navigate. The AcroYoga Table of Elements is such a simple and elegant guide to the practice that it almost seems obvious, now that I have seen it. The AcroYoga practice is a combination of opposing ideas that synthesize in a beautiful way: The individual practice and the community practice, the acrobatic and the therapeutic, giving support and being supported. I have no doubt that this book will have a profound impact on many people.

Beautiful structures, brilliant flow
Most books about movement practices lean heavily into a clearly structured set of steps to follow, or else share a variety of ideas without any clear path to move through them. This book is a beautiful combination of thorough, almost scientific structures to follow, along with exactly the right amount of fluidity, freedom, and autonomy given to its readers. The underlying principles it teaches of practice, play, and the relationship between them are laid out with crystal clarity through concrete vehicles of real exercises to do in daily life, and the lessons given extend far beyond the world of Acroyoga or even movement as a whole. This book is a brilliant guidebook to a life of happy mastery; I can't recommend it highly enough.

The Bible of AcroYoga
This isn't just a how-to, it is a magnum opus for those interested in AcroYoga and its sub-disciplines: yoga, acrobatics and thai massage. You may have seen AcroYoga in a park, or you may have done some basic postures as a kid - this book can take your hand and guide you into new possibilities within your body and in play with your friends. It has profound details on training methodology, mind set, and creative exercises. It has a permanent place on my coffee table and in my heart, I can't recommend it highly enough!

A beautiful practice and piece of Acroyoga history
Not only an instructional book on how to advance your acro practice. The book shares concepts and ideas so important to being an acroyoga. The content of this book is vast enough that any yoga teach can start integrating acroyoga style of play into their classroom for any body and any acroyogi can advance their practice.

More a "philosophy of everything" than a guide for acro
This book may appeal to people who like reading a lot about how acroyoga combines with yoga and with stretching and Eastern philosophy, but this was a letdown as beginner-intermediate acroyogi looking to learn more about acro. Most of the book is the author's "grand theory of everything"; thoughts on different aspects of all of these different disciplines. But I didn't care for that because if I wanted to learn more about yoga or Buddhism or stretching I could just get books specifically about them. And if you actually do all of those practices, you'll experience for yourself how they all mesh together. You don't really need someone to explain it to you, because you'll find your own way with it.As for acro, there is little here beyond what you will learn in your first six months. It is mostly basic poses with basic instructions.

Technically disapointing
Most of the informations in the book are general and regards abstract topics such as healing, yoga mentality, acroyoga origins, some very basic general knowledge in biology or physics etc. Its not bad by itself but I was looking for more technical informations about poses, transitions and flow, which are almost absent. I regret buying the book, it doesn't correspond to what I was looking for.

The book cover were peeling when arrived
The context covers very few acroyoga sequences as compared to philosophy and yoga. It is not worth it if you are not a complete beginner.
