No preparation needed, other than a short rinse before adding the leave(s) to your tank. The leaves will float for a few days and then sink to the bottom, you can then move the leaves to where you want them.

Are these good for a snail tank?

Snails live in the leaf litter but It is best to monitor other parameters with the leaves.
