These OFF! Backyard Citronella Candles are exactly what I needed for my patio. The scent is pleasant — not too strong — and really does help keep mosquitoes and other bugs away while we’re sitting outside. I love that they burn evenly and last a long time; the 25-hour burn time feels accurate. The candles also look nice as a centerpiece, so they add to the ambiance while being functional. The 8 oz size is perfect for a few hours at a time, and having two in the pack is convenient for larger tables or multiple areas. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase and will definitely buy again for summer evenings.

I have been these Off Backyard candles for years. I buy them during the mosquito season here in LA. This has been my experience: PROS: 1. Minimizes Mosquito activity - Citronella candles mask our scent from Mosquitoes. So this is camouflage from Mosquitoes. It does not repel them. If you light these an hour or so before going out, it would have enough time to circulate outside and make the mosquitoes move on as well. 2. Pleasant fragrance - They do smell very nice and make your backyard smell great. 3. Ambiance lighting - Great for outdoor parties as a table light as well as hide your guests from mosquitoes. 4. Lasts a long time - I light my candles every day at dusk and dawn and blow them out when we go inside. So about 3-4 hours a day lasts about a week. 5. Repels flies - I noticed that flies did not go near the area around these candles. It seems to repel flies. Mosquitoes would fly near the candles but would not bite us most of the time. CONS: 1. Does not repel mosquitoes - Unlike DEET, it does not actually repel mosquitoes. But if you have a heavy concentration of mosquitoes, you probably should use this in conjunction with bug spray. SUMMARY: Yes, it works. But, you have to leave it lit outside for some time before going out. It does not repel mosquitoes, just hides you from them. It repels flies though.
