There are some items that I don't find it necessary to buy name brand but this is not one of them. Scotch packing tape is hands down the best & worth spending a little more for. The tape dispenser is high quality and I never have issue with this packing tape. I ship a lot of items and can trust this tape.

Relatives used all our packing tapes recently and we had to restock, which happened to be Prime Day. Hands-down the best out there as we have used various brands (of similar price) from the hardware store. Although this is heavy duty, it does not leave any sticky residue unlike many other brands - something consistent across all 3M products I’ve used over the past 2 decades (even when unused for over 10 years). Another great feature is that the tape cuts cleanly with the dispenser.
