Bought 2 quarts of this for a project. It says not to thin or spray. Not sure why. Read other reviews saying that it had been sprayed with good results. I thinned 1/3 with lacquer thinner and have had good success. A couple of things to note, however. I was spraying brushed aluminum parts and put them on waxed paper. The lacquer on the wax paper never dried. I was testing the paper to see when it was safe to move the parts, but three days later it was still sticky. I tested one of the parts and they were all perfectly dry. So, it reacts oddly to waxed paper. I have now switched to spraying on brown paper and this is no longer a problem. I put toothpicks under the parts to hold them up during spraying and so far this has worked well. Second - the lacquer flows very well, so you really want to make sure your parts are level before you spray them or it will definitely run downhill. There is a definite change in appearance when you get enough sprayed on - the orange peel goes away completely, but it takes a few seconds, so be careful not to over do it. It flows nicely, so you can stop and spray a bit more if it isn't enough right away. Really nice product - easy to control. Would not recommend for large parts that have to be sprayed vertically. You will probably get runs. If you are spraying - definitely use a vapor mask or you will poison yourself big time. Definitely not for indoor use... Spraying around 50 PSI with large compressor and smallish sprayer. Works fine at about 70% humidity or less, but kept the lacquer in the garage where it was sprayed to match temperature. No fogging at all. Will definitely buy again.

This has been an excellent and a reliable product for over 30 years now! If you use it within the design of the product you will NOT be disappointed. It is a fast dry surface coating. However, one thing about this newer Deft is that it is a fast dry time laquer based coating. You need to apply it in cooler temps than that of a slower solvent type of coating, then, it needs to NOT be force dried (like moving it to a warmer location). One thing that gave me a bit of trouble is based upon the laquer base and the type of wood I applied it to(Mahogany). The wood actually seemed to absorb a LOT of the laquer thinner. Then, as the top or surface dried, if the wood became warmer, while the coating was still a bit tacky, it actually "blew bubbles" in the coating that ruined the final finish and had to be redone. This is especially possible in joints, and along any of the open grain patterns in the wood itself. Apply it in a cooler location (not a cold location) so that the surface does not dry quite as fast and you get a smoother glossier finish. Then keep it at the near same temp until dry, or you could also get bubbles into the surface finish from below. Do also be aware: You can buy this at almost any Lowes or Home Depot in stock for $9.47 to $9.97 per quart any day of the week! OR - Order it on line, pick it up in the store without any shipping too..... either way works. I just checked this out yesterday and wished I had NOT trusted Amazon to give me a reasonable price. The Amazon Prime Price was $16.97.

Took three weeks to get. Can was loosely packed in a box that was too big wich caused it to roll freely. Can was dented in spots. Product does put a high gloss on exotic woods, but it tends to leave drips if you're not very careful. Dries fast. Smell is strong, but not overpowering. Smell goes away after a couple days.
