It is fantastic for that. it can be used for anything with an hdmi input that can handle either 720 or 1080 input. It is switchable between the two. I bought it for using to input to my Vidiu to stream to YouTube Live. it is a brilliant device and pretty easy to manage once you practice with it a bit.

I've lost the power cord to mine. Is it possible to buy just that?

You won't need to use the Roland power cord but you would need to find something that meets the specs of that cord.

I have a pana agac-160a and an ipad. can i switch from a video image to pip of a document and record it with an external recorder ?

You could, but for the money I would get a "Sling Studio" and add the PIP in post production or with Livestreams broadcaster software to present to screen live. I use this Roland for sending multiple HDMI sources to Live presentation screens during conferences.

It brings in hdmi only, but there are enough various converters out there you should be able to find what you need to hook up just about any camera to it
