It truly works on area and throw rugs, albeit time consuming and labor intensive but 100% worth it!
I bought this because I found three large, like new (they are still being sold on the well known rug website for over five hundred for the three) at a thrift I ran into for a pet gate and the previous owner's high rise was being emptied out right then as luck had it, and the rugs were not a year old yet. The rugs are shag with padded bottoms and slate blue colored without any issues on them, but unfortunately, all three smelled like a cross between Yankee Candle and Bath and Body Works in vanilla caramel. Wanting a clean slate for the safety of my family to include pets, I read online this is pretty much what is recommended for the type of rugs and what the pros and dry cleaners would use too. For the price point I figured give it a try if nothing I would just pony up elbow grease. NOTES: I bought just the powder first. I then realized I needed the whole kit and thus ordered this. You will NEED a handle for the brush, The hole for it it's small and round and my telescope window washer tool base screwed into it but my telescoping painting poles did not. If you have a small rug you could get down on the floor by hand moving the brush on a small rug, but I think anything beyond 2x3 in size, save your back and knees and get something to screw into it so you can stand up and also see what you are doing it. PROCESS: It was a little labor intensive I won't lie and a bit time consuming too at just under four hours, but the rugs are fresh, clean and no more candle/lotion odor!!! What I did was: I blew my pool deck off in the direct sunlight. I then shook out each rug on both sides first over my grass. I then laid them out on the deck and did them one by one after the other spraying the pre-treatment spray first liberally, waiting 15 minutes for it to absorb. I then began applying the powder down liberally as well and brushing it in. After that I waited 30 minutes to use my Bissell pet vacuum on highest pile setting to gently cover the rugs surfaces in straight rows and them zig zags to be sure I got the substances out. I then I hung them across my yard in direct sunshine on a new clothes line we got for this purpose. Finally, I spritzed with a Febreze fabric scent spray that we prefer and I left them in the sun for a hour. While that was happening, I prepped the indoor tile by vacuuming and mopping those areas very well with Odo-ban in preparation of the new to us rugs. I brought the rugs in and you would not be able to tell they are not brand new. The are also so soft and plushy! I know this product and all of it's steps work and well for many reasons. After each vacuum during the cleaning process, I emptied the vacuum cannister and found unseen to the naked eyes or all of the shaking prior to beginning of the cleaning...red wig hair, yellow bird feathers, possibly orange cat hair, several metal Christmas ornament hooks, two bobby pins, and two small hard metal objects- we don't know what those were. If you are looking to clean rugs and don't mind a little DIY labor, this is the product to accomplish the goal. I am very happy I tried this before paying the pros or dry cleaners to basically use the same product and technique.

Partial success at best
Expensive. Did not improve stains on my sisal carpet at all. However, was better on jute rugs, not complete stain removal but improvement. I wouldn't buy it again.

Transform Your Home with Capture Carpet Total Care Kit!
I recently tried the Capture Carpet Total Care Kit, and I have to say, it’s been a total game changer for my home! As a pet owner, I’m always on the lookout for effective cleaning solutions that can handle stubborn stains and odors, and this kit did not disappoint. What I love about this product is that it’s designed for various surfaces—whether it’s my couch, car rugs, or upholstery, it works like a charm. The non-liquid formula is especially impressive. Unlike traditional carpet cleaners that can leave a soggy mess, this powder goes on dry and absorbs odors and stains without the need for harsh chemicals. It’s perfect for my pets, giving me peace of mind knowing that they’re safe while I clean. The application process is super easy. I just sprinkled the powder over the stained area, let it sit for a bit, and then vacuumed it up. The results were almost instant! Stains I thought would never come out vanished, and the room smelled fresh. Plus, I really appreciate that it’s an odor eliminator, not just a cover-up. One thing to note is that while it’s powerful, it does take a little time for the powder to fully absorb, so patience is key. But the wait is definitely worth it for the results! Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable, pet-friendly carpet cleaning solution, I highly recommend the Capture Carpet Total Care Kit. It’s effective, easy to use, and leaves my home looking and smelling fantastic!

Doesn't Work On White Wool Rugs
Smells fresh I guess? Worked I think. I used basically an entire 250 kit on an 8 x 10 white wool rug. Overkill but wanted to make sure it worked. The kit itself is cheap. The spray bottle really? Come on LOL. Might be the worst spray bottle of all time. The brush? Good enough. Made sense to dry clean bc a spine brush destroys wool.

Works where water doesn’t
This is a great alternative carpet cleaner when you can’t use a water-based cleaner. I have an expensive cream-colored rug that gets lightly soiled where my dog lies on it. A water-based rug cleaner used with a hand shampooer turned my rug yellow, and I needed my professional rug cleaner to get the yellow out. The professional would not use her high-powered steamer and instead recommended a “dry cleaner”. This did an excellent job with no yellowing, although I did go over one area twice. It left the carpet nice and soft and fluffy after, which I liked. The powder did not clog my vacuum, as others have reported, but I put a clean bag in the vacuum before using it and then discarded the bag with the cleaner in it. Also, my Panasonic vacuum is quite powerful. I took one star off because the spray bottle included in the box did not work and I had to use another bottle I had on hand.
