how do you keep the tube from drying?

No RTV silicone will accept pint since they are 100% silicone

Installing new valve covers & gaskets (ultra-seal)1981 camaro 305 ci, which of your products i should purchase is (1) tube enough?

I have done many SBC in 40+ years. If using cork gaskets glue them in place with weatherstrip adhesive. If using rubber gaskets, nothing at all. If making gaskets with RTV silicone use Black RTV silicone. Red rtv is for high heat exhaust work.
