Having used both tapes, the 591 is much easier to use as it tears easily by hand, the paper backing can be easily removed, greater holding than 3m double sided tape, doesn't leave a residue on wood or pull fibers away. It is also stiff with the backing on so it does not easily accidentally stick to itself. The X fasten tape is very rubbery/pliable once the backing is off and it is touches itself its difficult to unstick it and not have it deform in the process. Its hard to cut, It's very stretchy, slightly higher adhesive than the 591. I'm a woodworker making duplicate shapes with patterns and the XFasten tape was time consuming and difficult to use so I have three rolls sitting in a drawer unused. Intertape 591 is my favorite. I was sing 3M double sided but after using the 591, I'll not use it again. Cheers

Is this three 12 yard rolls (total of 36 yds) or three 36 yd rolls?

Each roll is 36 yards in length, and you receive three of those rolls.

How does this stuff compare to Fastcap’s double sided tape? Which has good hold but leaves some residue behind.

I have never used Fastcap. The x fasten didn't leave any residue on the hardwood cut on my bandsaw. I cut four pieces of 3/4 at a time from a pattern.

Anybody used the thicker xfasten double-sided tape (3/4"x20yd)item#dst3420 for woodwork and can tell me how it compares to this "woodworking" tape ?

It is by far the best I have used for woodworking.Better than most for ability of removing cover and easy to remove after use. Holds very well
