Any noticeable difference in cooking / defrosting evenness between the cyclonic and standard Inverter technology?

YES!! This thing defrosts like a CHAMP! No rubbery edges, no "cooking" when you want "warming" or "defrosting". All the pre-programmed...umm...programs... work amazingly. The only fault I've found so far is that you have to either scroll through all the programs (time consuming), memorize them, or make yourself a list of what # is what program and stick it somewhere inconspicuous.

The turntable is 16 1/2" for this size oven.

to cook food for a specified time such as 5 minutes: do you have to first push another button such as "cooking timer" or etc., or simply push "5-0-0"?

Push 5-0-0 and then start and it'll cook 5 minutes.

What is the actual width? Panasonic website says 23 7/8, Amazon's says 21.9, folks here say 21 7/8. I have a 22 1/8 opening.

The description for the 1.6 cu ft. unit contains 3 sets of dimensions: "Cavity" 9H x 16 7/16W x 18 1/2D "Unit" 11 15/16H x 21 7/8W x 19 15/16D "Exterior" 23 7/8” L x 19 15/16” W x 14” H Very confusing, especially since all the 1.6 and 2.2 cu ft questions appear to be lumped together. :-/ Fresh out of the box, here are the outside dimensions for Panasonic Model NN-SD745S 1.6 cu ft. H 12 W 21 3/4 With door max open 90 deg. add 3/8" for hinge clearance. D 18 Add 1 3/4" for rear protrusion. I hope this helps.
