Q: Will this support a midi connection to an ipad (via usb to lightening adapter), so as to use a piano teaching app?

Yes. It works with the official APPLE Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and an external power source. However it is very fiddly: you have to first plug the camera adapter in the iphone / ipad. Then plug a iphone/ipad charger (wall wart) to the female lightning plug in the camera adapter to power the iOS device. Then you have to turn the piano on and finally, plug the USB cable to connect the piano to the camera adapter. Once this is done in this order it is possible to switch the piano on and off and even unplug replug into another iOS device. I tried it with an iPad and iPhone and several MIDI apps : SimplyPiano, MIDI Wrench, GarageBand.

Q: How usable is this as a piano?

good for a beginner like me to learn chords fingering etc. convenient to carry around compared to the rollup keyboard, one can play chords, I found the rollup was not capable of playing more than one note at a time.

There is 128 to choose between with none of them being great

Now I can play the piano!

I always wanted to play the piano. Carry on piano, along with good utube tutorials, are helping the whole family learn and enjoy piano music.

Never buy it as an essential training piano, it is only an Outdoors portable piano for intermittent use for fun

as a toy can be usefull

I have test the deviceits sound not so much as the same as real digital pianoand its keyboard a little bit smaller than real one .any way if you want it for child as the first device for trying is good

It broke after a month and a half of use.

It was a good thing that it was lightweight & inexpensive & foldable so it takes up little space.However, after a month and a half of use, it started to produce no sound or a different sound except for the keys in the bottom and top areas.I will not buy again.
