Very attractive price. I prefer the longer lighters like this because I have a lot of jar candles. The size is perfect. The safety feature is very effective. I need to use both hands to light the lighter, but once I have, I don’t need to keep the child safety lock pushed in to keep it lit. This is a massive improvement over previous designs. I could never keep the button pushed in and the trigger pulled at the same time. Wind doesn’t blow these lighters out quite as easily as previous designs. These produce a very nice flame that makes it easier to light my jar candles and logs in my fire pit. I hope they last a long time, but would purchase again if needed.

I live in Big Bear and rely on kerosene lanterns (specifically my Feuerhand 276s) and a wood stove for both ambiance and backup lighting. While matches are traditional, these BIC Multi-purpose Lighters are my go-to for daily use because of the reach and reliability. The Long Wand Advantage: If you’ve ever tried to light a lantern with a standard pocket lighter, you know the struggle of getting the flame to the wick without singing your fingers. The long metal wand on these reaches right into the globe effortlessly. It’s also much safer for reaching past the kindling into the back of my wood stove. Performance: Ignition: Unlike the cheap off-brand lighters, these strike on the first or second click every single time. Child Safety: The trigger has just the right amount of resistance—safe enough to keep kids from accidentally lighting it, but not so stiff that it’s a pain to use in the cold. Visible Fuel: There is a small window to see the butane level, so I know exactly when I’m running low and need to grab the next one from the 4-pack. Pros: Consistent Flame: Doesn't sputter, even when there’s a slight draft in the room. Value: Buying the 4-pack is way more cost-effective than picking them up individually at the grocery store. Durability: The wand is sturdy and doesn't bend or wiggle over time. Cons: Non-Refillable: These are disposable. While they last a long time, I'd love to see a refillable version from BIC with this same build quality. Bottom Line: A household staple for anyone with a wood stove or kerosene lanterns. They are reliable, safe, and the long reach makes them much more versatile than a standard lighter. Pro Tip: If you're using these in very cold temperatures (like an unheated shed), keep one in your pocket for a minute to warm the butane—it will strike much faster!

These work well once I get my skinny little 76 year old fingers to press the power button correctly. It's difficult for me.

I bought these lighters to ignite a bug fogger since matches don't stay lit long enough and a regular lighter gets too hot to have it on long enough to ignite the fogger. I do use them occasional for other purposes. There are no instructions included to tell you how to light them. You have to push down hard on the child protection mechanism (button) on top and then press the trigger to light it. Once it is lit, you can let go of the top button and hold the trigger to keep it lit. Although the video on the product page shows this done with one hand, your thumb would have to be very strong to accomplish this with one hand. Once I figured out how to light this lighter, I tried to do it with one hand. Since I have arthritis in my thumb, there is no way I could do it. So, I asked my husband to try to light it with one hand. He couldn't do it either. Although it does take to hands to light this light, I guess this isn't a big deal. Once it get it lit, it will stay lit without holding the button as long as you keep the trigger held in. As you can see in the video, I had a hard time pressing down hard enough on the child protection mechanism to get the lighter to ignite. I hope this review was helpful for you.
