Surprisingly Nice. Well Done CRKT !
Some how I thought the pattern on the blade was painted on (just light gray paint over a dark gray steel blade). Actually the blade is mirror polished then acid etched to form the dark gray areas. That’s a whole new world from some paint on a blade. it is high quality and durable. Good job CRKT ! The wrapping that forms the handle could not be any nicer. It is just great ! Firm and durable and lots of grippy surface without being harsh or prickly. I like it a lot. The knife has a bit of heft and weight to it due to all the steel in the handle area so it feels like a serious knife / tool rather than feeling cheep and light. The edge is sharp enough and well formed; usable out of the box. Again, way to go CRKT. As far as the sheath goes and being hard to pull the knife out of it; I am quite used to these kinds of knives and sheaths and find the best way to pull the knife is to not so much pull on the knife but to push the sheath off with our thumb. Then it is a synch and not the least bit difficult. To get the hang of it start with the knife upside down / edge up and not on your belt. There is a large area of the sheath on the edge side that it is easy to push your thumb against. Don’t worry about contacting the blade edge with your thumb there is a fair amount of handle down in the sheath that your thumb will drop onto when the sheath pops loose. Once you get the feel for this kind of knife draw then you can push your thumb against the rim of the sheath opening on the side of the knife to draw the knife with the edge down. it works quite well once you get used to the idea. My sheath is just right from the factory as far as how much retention it grips the knife with. You want to be able to run down a rocky hill and not have the knife jump out of the sheath. Or carry the knife upside down as a neck knife without there being any possibility of it falling out. In other words it should really snap in there firmly which mine does. If you think the sheath is stupid hard to draw the knife I would recommend getting another sheath made. If you are stubborn, as I am, as a last ditch effort one can heat up the sheath with a heat gun and spread the opening open with some kind of wooden wedge etc and leave it in there until the sheath is cool to the touch. This takes a surprising amount of heat so keep heating and wedging until the plastic suddenly becomes pliable. This stuff isn’t just your ordinary plastic it can resist a fair amount of heat and just sit there and take it. I know this from adjusting other brands of similar fiber reinforce plastic sheaths. Bottom line I have zero complaints about my new knife. For the price it is an astounding product. I wish the people who made it got paid enough (though I fear they didn’t) ; they did a great job.

Awesome Small Fixed Blade Knife
Awesome little knife with a unique carry and deployment. This review is of the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) Columbia River Knife and Tool's 2367 Burnley Obake Every Day Carry Knife . Obake is Japanese for shape shifter or changeling. I think that alludes to the versatility of the carry options. The full tang knife is small and light, but beefier than you would expect for a knife of this size. When I first picked it up, it was noticeably heaver than I expected. The grip wrap is such that I have no worry about slippage--even when wet. Thank the Samurai for that technology. The kydex sheath has a rip cord with a nifty metal skull bead that you feed your belt through. Then the sheath is put IWB (inside the waistband) at any position you feel comfortable. After wearing this knife for a week, I can say that it does not slip down while wearing due to the rip cord length, and can be easily moved when driving if necessary. Upon deployment, the sheath comes safely with the knife until it hits the end of the rip cord and then the knife and sheath separate. No chance of an accidental injury upon deployment nor of accident when re-sheathing the knife. The creator Mr. Lucus Burnley has a great demo at [...] There are some limited editions of this same knife for sale with colored faux stingray inserts--but not on Amazon. Academy has the same knife but for $5 more than Amazon. A friend who is a knife expert advised me that this deployment method is actually of ancient design, but the implementation here is unique. Whoever invented it, it works. I still love my Tek-Lok belt clip-outfitted knives Blade-Tech Tek-Lok with Hardware (1 - Pack) , but I'm going to carry this knife with the rip cord for a month or two before deciding whether to use a Tek-Lok with it. (Note: The Obake also comes with a belt clip that you can screw onto the sheath that I have not yet tried and probably won't because Tek-Lok is so superior to any other belt clip I've ever seen or used.) You can buy a much more expensive knife, but this looks expensive with the cool blade etching, appears to be stout and tough, fits comfortably at all positions because it is so sleek even with the sheath, and is cheap enough to carry every day and not be afraid to use for self defense or opening the mail. Update: Been wearing every day since I got it. It works with a suit, jeans, short and T-Shirt, even with my gi. Plenty of knife, but easy to carry and conceal. I would buy it again (and now am thinking about getting the special edition).

Higher quality build than price implies
Decent blade steel. Quality tight wrap of handle. Hard to find fault for the price. I would not rely on this for a so called self defense tool. No guard to prevent hand from sliding on to the sharp edge. BTW. The blade is ok sharp. Not nearly as sharp as one would expect. Will be sharpening this soon. It takes a little bit of trial and error in finding the right place to thread through your belt as in where you do so. In front or behind the belt loop nearest where yku will tuck the knife into the inside of the belt or even your wait band. The lanyard length is set where when the knife is tucked in, the handle will still stick out enough to reach it. You pull on the handle and the lanyard keeps the sheath attached to your belt. One hand to deploy. Two to reinsert into sheath and tuck back under belt/waistline.

My perfect EDC knife
CRKT is becoming my go-to brand. This knife is an excellent value for the price. Very tough made, solid quality, priced comparable to inferior knives. Ok, let’s just admit it, given the design of this knife, it’s not an ordinary pockets knife. It won’t carry well in a pocket. It’s a shank; this knife was designed for self defense. And after a lot of handling and carrying, it seems quite perfectly designed for its purpose (I’ve obviously never used it for self defense, so I can’t review it’s performance on actual physical testing). The sheath is excellent; great retention and the lanyard works well strapping the knife tip-up style on the belt. I recommend reworking the lanyard as shown in my photo, to carry as I mentioned (11 o’clock for me). Keeps the knife quick at hand, easy to draw, and highly accessible for last resort defense, while still being flexible enough to move with you and not jab your gut out. I was worried about the grip on this knife, flowing right into the blade as it does, but the grip is excellent; knife stays glued to your hand. And the edge. The edge came right out of the box sharp enough to shave the ears off a gundark. The point is also well sharpened to a nearly needle-like tip. Just drawing it out to cut a package, the tip barely nicked my finger upon leaving the sheath, and sliced through, surprisingly deep, with almost zero effort. If you’re looking for an excellent, tactical everyday carry knife, look no further than the Obake.

Good buy id buy it again
It fits my use well! I wanted a back up fixed blade to carry in conjunction with a firearm. and this in my professional opinion , fits the bill pretty good its small enough to carry \ conceal yet large enough to save your life in the event of a weapons retention issue or catastrophic failure . The handle is amazing its a solid cord.wrap it literally is hard as a rock unlike traditional cord wraps due to the fact that its impregnated with epoxy . The handle is beautiful and very functional and SUPER grippy no need for a guard trust me. Reason for only 4 stars is the edge was not up to my spec upon opening easily remedied but should not have to be a thing on a knife marketed for self defense . I touched the edge up easily to a toothy yet shaving edge on Arkansas stones . Wish the knife had a little more belly on the cutting surface but cant expect perfect without having a custom.knife made. The lanyard was also too short even for its intended carry option. Easy fix.. All in all very nice especially for the price.!

Pleasantly surprised at High Quality
This is a knife made in a sort of Japanese style like a dagger. Handle is easy to grip and I like the way it feels, not too heavy. The handle wrap material gives you a very good positive grip that seems very non-slip. Knife is very sharp, and of a good thickness balance: not too thin, not too thick. Blade length is close to 3.5" and is a decent size for small chores or even protection. Sheath is pretty good, I just got some paracord and made a belt loop as I didn't like how the knife stuck out with the factory belt attachment. However I don't feel this reduces the value of the knife as the design is for military equipment attach-ability. I purchased this for hiking and saw it was light weight, but I am really impressed overall. This is one of many CRKT knives I have bought over the years, and they always seem top notch. I would compare this to Gerber, SOG, Buck, or Kershaw.... but its design might be even nicer than the other companies fixed blades! I own a few from each and this is clearly a great production knife.

this is the best self-defense purposed knife I have ever owned
Simply put, this is the best self-defense purposed knife I have ever owned. To be honest, it's a shank; and a shank is all I wanted. I looked at several knives, but chose this one due to size and ergonomics. I carry it anywhere from my 8-11 o'clock depending on how I'm dressed. It's primary purpose is to have something to allow me to gain distance from an attacker if accessing my pistol is not an option within that distance (I'd prefer the pistol closer anyways, and train for contact distance, but sometimes, in close quarters, a knife can be more useful than a gun). Also, should I be fighting for control of my pistol, I imagine this little knife would be a great deterrent. The knife itself: the steel came fairly sharp, but a few strokes on a quality stone made it razor sharp. I like the look of the blade, and the geometry is perfect for penetrating...certain barriers. The handle has everything I need (solid, aggressive and ergonomic grip) and nothing I don't need (finger guard, flared base, finger grooves). The sheath it comes with seems excellent. My only gripe is that I'd like the sheath to have the holes on both sides of the blade, to allow for more mounting options. The lanyard and skull that came with it did nothing for me, so they went off quickly. The included belt slide was fun to play with, but didn't offer the concealment of vertical carry, so I added a comp-tac IWB clip which has given great retention and comfort. For the price point of about $30, I'm considering buying one or two more to stage other places. With work, there are times I can't have a firearm, but some locations are more lax with edged weapons, or they simply go unnoticed, so as a stand-alone weapon, I could certainly do worse. I'm a firm believer in don't take ONLY a knife to a gunfight. But make no mistake, this is a very capable tool.

Nice to carry!
finally a good knife from CRKT. I already had a big one from the same brand. I loved it, but one day I wanted to fix the bearings and they all fell out, because it was made cheap. BUT I LOVE THIS ONE. you can carry it on your bald and pull it pikal.

Crazy sharp and really covert!
Wowwww! I can tell you this knife is really sharp. It didn't took 15 minutes from its opening that I cut myself because I was negligent. I thought it wasn't really sharp from factory so I put it aside on the couch. When I moved to reach for it, my finger went straight for the blade. Blade was so "scalpel" sharp that I almost didn't felt it, but only felt a little sting. After a few seconds, I saw blood coming out from my finger. At that moment, I did understand that it sharp enough from factory that you could even practice chirurgical interventions. Ahahha Seriously, since then the blade is always in its well-made fiberglass-reinforced polymer sheath. Pass your belt through the string loop and fix to your belt with the skull's bead. Works great. Give it enough slack so it can be tucked inside the pants at the 1 o'clock position (if you're righty). If you have a little belly, it even can be worn more discreetly, as it cannot even be seen. Untuck your shirt and it becomes invisible. Seriously, this knife is made for a self-defense purpose and looks like a high quality japanese knife. Awesome tool. Must buy for the price.
