Excellent Product
I used this seed to improve the look of my lawn in late spring of 2025. I definitely missed the window and the seed did not germinate. However, this spring the seed did germinate and all I can say is WOW! My lawn is thick green and lush! Glad my user error worked!!

Over seeded and patched
In the areas I used it for patch it grew quickly and filled in well. It blended in well with the Kentucky bluegrass. I patched with the Fescue due to the high traffic across that area. Same color, thicker blades. In the areas I over seeded I have no idea. Although I frequently sit now on the porch and watch the grass grow I can't tell. I can tell you though Pennington is a good brand and I have always had good results with the brand.

MUST be watered...
Poor germination. Bought this more than once. Same lousy results. UPDATE: Planted about May 1st. Very dry here. this spring. Finally rained heavy past two weeks. seeds NOW germinated. I should have watered more...

Sadly, Thoroughly Disappointed After ZERO Germination
Head to head with Lesco's Tall Fescue (linked for reference below) just isn't a fair fight! I am not a landscape professional, horticulturist, or grass-ophile, but I do take good care of and pride in my lawn. I recently undertook a small restoration- mostly preparing and seeding bare spots, but also a deep core aeration, dethatching and topping/blending Leafgro for my whole yard. I live in the mid-Atlantic and the seasons can be challenging for grass- cold winters, hot summers, and sometimes protracted draughts during both, other times, swampy, muggy, and wet. I am fortunate to have good, consistent soil. In late September, after lawn preparation, to ideally insulate against pros and cons of each and create a hardier lawn, I seeded with both Lesco's Tall Fescue and Penninton's Rebels Tall Fescue. As you can hopefully see in the attached pictures and video, after 10 days in optimal conditions- off and on light rain, sunny 75 degree days, and cool 50 degree nights- the Lesco seed germinated nicely; nearly 100%. The Rebels, on the other hand, had ZERO germination- ZERO growth. Hear me people- ZILCH, ZED, NADA- absolutely none. I had high hopes because of Pennington's reputation and success I have had with some of their other products. Frankly, I have NO IDEA why this seed comprehensively failed. Perhaps it was just really, Really, REALLY old stock. Regardless, I am supremely disappointed and soured on the Pennington brand. Good luck with your lawns and consider some other fescue suppliers/brands before using Rebels. Sprouts quickly, nice dark green grass.
Grows a little too quickly for my taste, but that's better than the opposite.

Low Germination Rate
Pennington seems to have the lowest germination rate out of any seed I've used. But I do keep going back to it because its price point is great, and once it does take hold, its far superior in aesthetic and durability. Its a great Hardy grass that stands up well to traffic and dogs.

I removed this grass after it grew but it seems to be a solid product
Hello, I'm somewhat of a grass growing novice. I did plant this and it grew unexpectedly well but in the end I did not like how it looked with the rest of my lawn (not the product's fault). I spent 4 hours removing the tall fescue I recently grew with a weed puller, re-soiling and planting a thinner/finer grass. The reason I'd give this product positive reviews is that the product grew really well and it did have deep roots. The issue is I didn't know it would look so bunchy in my lawn and it seemed to be growing faster than my other grass which caused an uneven lawn. If I needed this grass to prevent soil erosion such as my backyard where no one really sees or go much I would buy this product again. The roots being that deep definitely has benefits and requires less maintenance eventually. It is also removable if with a weed puller or I'm sure herbicides if you need to change grass types or don't like it. Update: I've increased the review to 5 stars after trying many other grasses. I landscaped/cleared brush on a large steep hill to improve access to my backyard as my house is built into a hill. I removed so much plant life that I wanted to replace it with grass asap. I chose this grass again due to low maintenance and it is starting to grow.

My fields are bountiful thanks to this seed
Prior to my purchase, my fields were barren. It was as though a 16th century army had salted the earth. Then, behold, the winds whispered of a “Pennington” selling seed called “the Rebels”. I sowed the seeds of rebellion apparently and now my field is demanding secession. I suspect I’ll have to cut this down soon enough (to about 3 1/4”) because it’s growing by the day. Anyway. 10/10 would buy again.
