Merchant & Mills Workbook: A Collection of Versatile Sewing Patterns for an Elegant All Season Wardrobe

The patterns are full size in their own little pocket nice and neat!! Awesome! The photography is incredible and I can use every piece in my wardrobe! The instructions are detailed and concise. I am in love with this book

I bought this for my wife who’s taken to it with a passion for sewing. I first ran across this book in a sewing shop and what struct me immediately was that this felt like an art book. Some people have criticized the drawings of the outfits. I love their wrinkly, almost haphazard way in which they’re depicted. It’s like the person just took them off and tossed them onto the bed, happily gotten a day’s worth of wear out of it. The patterns are not difficult to follow and as the creators said, it’s a return to sewing with passion.

Lovely book, beautiful, inspiring pictures on heavy paper and sewn binding make book feel hand made. I love looking through it.The patterns and techniques in the book originally intimidated me. It is a different kind of sewing than what I have done - attention to detail versus getting it done quickly. After completing the 1st project though, I found that french seams are not hard to do, and they really are nice, especially with ravelly fabric.All the patterns are easy to find and trace on the pattern sheets, lastly, directions are illustrated and written clearly.

This delightful sewing book comes with a slew of patterns, all for under $20. I am more COS and Eileen Fisher than sweet ruffled print. These are very straightforward designs and pretty easy to make. Do yourself a favor and buy a roll of 18 or 24 inch tracing paper too - it will make it easier to cut your own size. Have fun!

This workbook is very thorough and from a company I admire. There are 6 patterns, thoroughly outlined instructions & patterns printed on paper that follow, and most patterns have variations. Most of them work well with linen, which is one of my favorite fabrics to work with. I love the versatility and approach of this workbook and am excited to get started.

The designs are nice and it looks like the sewing directions are adequate but to get a working pattern you have to trace pieces that are given in pieces! For a dress, say, the top part of the sleeve is on the other side of the same piece of paper from the lower part of the sleeve (the sleeves are not pieced themselves just the pattern) the same is true of the front of the dress, to get one pattern piece you must trace it from two places and line up and tape the tracings together. I got annoyed and gave up. Perhaps I will try again, but it could have been easily avoided by them just printing each pattern piece in one entire piece. They could have super imposed pieces if saving paper was so important. In my opinion, it would have been easier for the user.If you have a lot of patience and a lot of tracing paper this may be a book for you.

This book is easy to follow and read. Each pattern has 2-3 variation options to customize each piece.My sewing teacher introduced me to Merchant & Mills and everything that they sell is amazing! We made a sleeveless version of the Curlew pattern. It's a bias cut top that lays perfectly. We made it out of light-mid weight linen. Bias cut is so comfortable for me...and no zippers or buttons! Haven't tried the patterns yet, but it is a beautiful and inspirational book. Beautiful photographs, a capsule wardrobe I truly want to try, along with a strong dose of inspiration. One note, the book does not have step by step instructions so you should have the basis down before starting it.

This book is great the patterns are excellent. The only negative thing I can say is the pictures do not do the patterns justice. To be honest all the pictures make the clothes look sad and boring but they are wonderful. Some reviews say it runs large but I don't find that at all. I am 5"10 so they fit quite well for me.

Il libro è fatto bene, un pò costoso ma dal sito purtroppo questi modellinon possono essere acquistati singolarmente. Mi sono divertita nel fare il modello heron ma ho avuto qualche difficoltà (essendo anche il lingua inglese) nella realizzazione di alcune parti. dovrebbero forse avere link di tutorial collegati che magari spieghino passo passo come realizzare i modelli più complicati anche per le principianti come me.

Libro de costura muy bien explicado, está en ingles, es grande, con éste libro he aprendido a hacer ropa sencilla pero muy práctica, es ropa muy cómoda sin la necesidad de poner cierres (zipers)

Es un libro precioso, la presentación, las fotografías y las ilustraciones explicativas son muy claras y fáciles de seguir paso a paso. Muy buena compra.

Très belle presentation et pour une fois, les patrons ont une pochette! Hurrah. Je les ai pas encore essayé mais j'ai déjà bien envie de faire le pantalon et la jupe ainsi que le T-shirt à longues manches. Les photos sont très jolis, et les explications très claires, meme si ce n'est pas pour un debutant. J'ai commandé de suite les deux autres livres de Merchant & Mills, parce que les descriptions des procedures, memes très brèves, sont très claires. J'ai hate de faire les modèles pour moi et pour ma fille.
