Could you use this for an indoor paddle?

Yes works well as indoor, enjoy the speed as in it makes the ball (3 stars) travel a lot faster then a Jet 500 killerspin for example, crazy spinners and accuracy as well.... Be prepared to buy a lot of balls though this paddle puts a beating and cracks them at times with hard swings.

Does the rubber on this paddle dry out and become slick over time?

Not excessively. I think they all do that to a certain extent, but if you keep it indoors, it lasts a long time. I replace mine about once a year, and use them daily. This is a good paddle.
