How far does the handle stick out from the front of the door? Is this distance part of the 20 5/8" depth?

The handle sticks out about 1-1/4". I think the depth probably includes the handle, but with the unit installed, its not so easy to say. I can say that the measurement from the back of the inside of the unit to the door edge seal is 17-1:2"

The manual says it weighs 61 lbs

What is needed to plumb directly into the water line not faucet?

If you buy the counter top model you will need a half inch water hose to screw on the back water input. I used a three foot hose to reach the cold water line. You will need to install a tee in the line. Use shark bite adapter to make connection.
