Review: Brilliant tool for the small, high job!! - Needed to cut back shrubbery behind a shed that I couldn’t get to with a bow saw and because of my pacemaker I am unable to use gas equipment, this pole saw was brilliant and easy to use...cut through like a knife through butter!! Review: This saw is the answer for cutting tall, thick tree branches! - This is a little miracle worker of a saw! I was facing a daunting task – trimming a giant pyracantha bush in our back yard, which I would normally tackle with a manual tree pruner / lopper. Well this year we’ve had an especially tough winter with lots of snow. All the snow build-up caused the branches to droop so bad they were touching our deck, and I saw just how out of control the tree had gotten. I knew it was time to bring in some tougher hardware than a branch clipper and found this pole saw on desertcart. It slices right through the branches with very little effort or kick-back! There’s not much assembly required, just be sure to add the oil to it before running. It was somewhat heavy, especially to hold upright for a long time, so I took quite a few breaks while sawing. FYI I’m relatively small and weak lol, so for a big burly guy it would probably not be that heavy. But this tool was immensely easier to use than a clipper or manual saw. Plus the price is right! My before & after pictures do look a little wonky because I cut a bunch of dead debris from the center of the tree, but these are incredibly hardy plants that regenerate quickly. I’m guessing by spring, that ugly center portion will be all filled in. I’m trying to “train” it to grow up and out length-wise, because it functions as our screen for nosy neighbors. In any case, the length of the pole allowed me to reach tall branches without having to balance on a ladder. One of the best yard tools I’ve ever purchased and would highly recommend.

Its NOT 12' but it works!!!!!!
I have a fairly big yard and could have justified buying a higher power gas one or a cordless trimmer, but I’m cheap, besides I’m no professional logger, so for the few times a year I’m going to use it, I don’t mind dragging the cord around, I’m slow anyway so it works out. First off, assembly couldn’t be easier, the head goes on with a quick latch, and it comes with enough bar oil to fill the small tank once, it goes fast so be sure to buy extra. The quick latch head also makes storage very easy. I did have a situation where I managed to open the quick latch on the tree or another branch, sending the chainsaw hurling to the ground in my general direction. It didn’t come close enough to fire off a nasty letter, but close enough to get me thinking. Luckily I have my Masters in Backyard Engineering, I actually studied under the world famous Dr. Jerry Rig. I went to my laboratory (it’s a garage) and devised a duct tape safety latch which cured the problem. I bought this in a lighting deal and for what I paid I wasn’t expecting much but figured what the heck. I put this little saw to the test, cutting large limbs and even small trees. It doesn’t have as much reach as other models but it’s certainly adaquate, and relatively light and easy to control, really perfect for light pruning and trimming high woody shrubs. So far I have spent three full days cutting with it, and abusing it a bit and besides the one mishap, the only other issue was when I bound it up and the chain came off, and with the quick change tool less design, putting it back on was a breeze. It has run flawlessly, I’m very satisfied with the purchase. One note, and it didn't matter to me, as I didn't buy it for the reach, but IT IS NOT 12' more like 7'. I posted a picture of it next to an 8' ladder for reference.

Another little toy
Have used it to cut some high branches in my orchard to get the fruit. Will be helpful in trimming this fall. Lightest (but small engine) for old fogies like me.
