Brilliant family read!
This book series is a fabulous read for the whole family. My husband and two daughters ages 6 and 7 sat by the fire every night to read about Toms adventures. We all enjoyed them so much! They are funny and interesting and they serve as a great bridge between our perceptions of places and cultures and the true reality of them. I recommend every family reads these books together.

Amazing book
Although the book may be geared for someone a bit older, my 4 year old is loving this book as we read a chapter every night before bedtime. I have a feeling this epic will last in my sons book shelf for a long time. Not to mention i am loving the adventure as well, refreshing change from the typical kids books that usually put me to sleep. Turely inspiratonal and educational without being blatantly obvious.

**Warning to Christian parents: contains witchcraft**
I realize this is going to be an unusual review. I was very excited about this book. I love the 1000 hours outside podcast and really enjoyed Alastair's episodes. These books came highly recommended and I liked forward to reading them with my kids. However, two chapters in and I don't see us finishing it for two reasons: 1) In the first two pages it contains witchcraft: namely an African travel ritual of drinking blood and milk. 2) It contained a part of an old African fable about Creation, where God was "tired" and gave all the animals seeds to plant. The lazy fox planted his upside down, and it still grows that way to this day, so the story goes... That's not in my Bible. Disappointed as I was really looking forward to this with my kids. I can't recommend this book for Christian families.
