Are these treats soft or crunchy?

They are soft, although I bought one package where they were little dry, thus a little crunchy. I have had that happen only once.

how many squares are there in a pack?

There are enough in a pack to last about a month. I give my big dog (72 pounds) six squares a day and the smaller pup (18 pounds) 1 1/2 squares. So, roughly 225.

The last bag I received had sparkles in them (kind of like they had mica in them)- does anyone else notice this?

Mine has sparkles in them and I am afraid to feed them to the dog! They seem to be on the outside of the treats -- not mixed in.
