Huot 12675 Tap and Drill Bit Index for Metric Tap Sizes 2.5 mm x 0.45 mm to 12 mm x 1.75 mm and Metric Drill Bit Sizes 2.05 mm to 10.2 mm

Works like it should but not very sturdy.

I have several Huot brand drill indexes, for both inch and metric drill sets and I've always been happy with the quality. I had a metric tap set, with the sizes of taps and drills this case is made for. The set originally came in a soft plastic case, but the drills and taps were always falling out and getting mixed up in the wrong slots, causing me to use the wrong drill for the tap more than once.So I decided it was time to replace the plastic case with this nice metal one. As expected, the quality is top-notch, but there are a few problems you should be prepared for if you buy this case. My tap set has short drill bits, because you really only need a pilot hole as deep as the tap is long. This index is made for full-length "jobber" size drill bit, so the short bits in my set just drop through the holes. Actually, that was true only for the three largest size drills, and I quickly solved that problem by gluing some short segments of 3/8" aluminum angle to act as stops at the bottom of the drill bit.The second problem is harder to solve: I keep most of my drill indexes in a drawer of my lathe bench. This works fine for all of the other (8) drill sets in the drawer, but for this index, when I open the drawer, the inertia of the drills and taps causes them to slide out of their holes and scatter int the index - a much worse problem than I had with the orginal plastic case!I'll figure out a way to fix that - thinking of installing some kind of thick felt (or similar material) strip to apply a little pressure to the sides of the shanks. But for now, I'll just have to store the index in the drawer sideways. :(

I work almost exclusively in the metric system. All of my metric taps and drills have just been rolling around in one of my tool box drawers for your. Now I can gather them all up and put them in this index. Over the years I have collected the tap drills and taps for all the standard metric threads. I also have the standard clearance hole sizes for the standard metric taps. Would it be great if somebody made and index for Taps, tap drill, and clearance hole size drills. What make these indexes so useful is that you can see when a drill or tap is missing. As soon as I see a hole in the index I order a replacement.

Great box should have bought one years ago for the metric taps

I bought this for work it's great for having your drill bit and your taps next to each other. It's very well made and will last a lifetime. This is not the first one I've owned of these.

Well made. Brilliant idea. Now my drills & taps are easy to find.

Great build quality except for the 8mm and 10mm tap. The ledges that are cut and bent out should have been lower for each of these slots. I have tried 3 brands of taps, and none will go in the slot and allow the case to close. I have bent the 10mm tap ledge completely in to correct for this. This works, but the tap isn't actually long enough for no ledge at all. At this time I can't put an 8mm tap in the case.
