I could spend more and not have to worry about the blade sticking and cutting into the stone. Be sure to get an inagura stone for when you gouge. A stone that won't stick will cost 2-3 times as much. I would recommend, but be careful about blade stickiness.

I will put 4 stars, because the stone has 2 little dings on it. I will not complain too much though, as they are located where the razor won't go, but still...

I used to professionally sharpen and polish. Man people on here are gouging the stone because the DON'T KNOW HOW TO SHARPEN! The sharpest razor finish you will get is from a whetstone. It doesn't leave deep grooves in the metal as does diamond. By default, the grit size will equate to a stone being soft. You stroke forward SUPER LIGHTLY and you push harder on the reverse stroke. 12000 grit is a polishing stone grit. It's not intended to remove large quantities of material at this stage, only at the edge!

It arrived broken into several pieces. The case was also damaged and split. The good news is I was able to return it the next day without any hassles or issues. I ordered the replacement stone and it is due tomorrow. Fingers crossed this one arrives intact.

Good polishing stone till you progress to higher grits or substrates. A little soft but easily overcome with lighter pressure.

I get what I paid for. I will look for a proper Naniwa pro series when I have money. At the time I got was 49 for 10k stone seems unreal. Well that is what I got now I see.Cuts decent otherwise why load up.Came with ever so small dimple from factory not seller. He even added the bubble wrap for the stone. Can’t see without light reflect. No problem it will wear down.True splash and go.The plastic stand I actually love because it’s all I got now for whetstone stand many stone sells without stand. It even had holes in the button in case of water got in during splashing well thought out.I would not buy this series by Naniwa anymore. Been lied to that’s the same as pro series it’s not. Pro series more dense therefore should be no load up. More abrasive too. I would recommend if that’s all you can afford it’s still way beyond any USA made shit stone or china made. This stone is amazing for only 45 bucks. The reason it's so cheap is cause it's a lot thinner than other stones, at only 10mm thick, so it will not last as long. However, some users have reported that it warps after using, but I have not had this problem at all. I have sharpened about fifteen different knives on it and it's stayed flat and true this entire time. It is a splash and go and I let it dry with a fan after every use and have had no problems with it at all. From what I have read online, it is basically a rebadged Naniwa 12k super stone at a significantly lower cost. Some of the older stones have SS on the side in the serial number, which matches the super stone. The stone is very hard and stays very flat, which is excellent for sharpening my yanagis and usabas, which I need really sharp for work. However, it does load up fairly quickly, especially on single bevel knives so it has to be removed with either a rust eraser or flattened out with a flattening stone in order for it to actually cut again. Leaves an excellent mirror polish on my knives and could not be happier for the price.

同社の富士♯8000も使用していますが、輝きも切れ味も一段ちがいます。特に暗く吸い込まれる鏡の様な仕上がりはお勧めですが、妻は気持ち悪いと言います。砥石を5分以上水に浸し、表面水も多めにして使用した方が目詰まりしにくい様に感じますが、水に入れたままにしておくと砥石が脆くなり角が欠けやすくなるので注意しい下さい。説明書にも砥ぎ汁を洗い流さない様に記載されいてますが、ダイヤモンド砥石で多めに研ぎ汁を作りその上を軽く滑らせるイメージで研げば、突っ張ったり目詰まりしにくいと思います。切れ味は砥石の平面性にも影響を受けるので、常にダイヤモンド砥石で面修正をしながら砥ぐ事も試して下さい。(高粒度砥石の面修正は粒度の荒い砥石やコンクリートブロックに擦り付ける方法は砥石表面の傷や欠けを生じるのでオススメしません。)この輝シリーズは柔らかく、青紙からハイスまで素材を選ばず刃先に良く馴染むので砥ぎの精度が高くなくても綺麗な鏡面にしてくれますが、包丁の先端部を強く当てるとゴリッと抉れるので注意が必要です。綺麗な鏡面仕上げのコツは♯2000までをしっかり丁寧に仕上げキズ消して、♯4000からは番手が上がる事に徐々に優しくゆっくりと磨くイメージで仕上げる事です。白っぽい鏡面から暗い鏡面への変化が分かるはずです。実際に使用比較してこの商品、私の様な素人が使用しても切れ味、鏡面具合共に他社紫♯30000より上に仕上げてもらえます。

自分が愛用しているナニワ研磨工業の白仕上げ砥石8000番よりも、さらに目の細かい12000番の砥石を使ってみたくなり、今回この砥石を購入しました。さすがに研ぎ上がりの輝きや切れ味は白仕上げ砥石に劣りません。ですが、満足しているかと言えば意外とそうでもありません。まず、砥石に厚みがありません。厚さはわずか1センチ。白仕上げ砥石と違い、研ぎ台も付いていないので、高さが足りません。研ぎ台がついていない代わりに、収納ケースの上に砥石を載せてを研ぎ台とするのですが、その収納ケースに難があります。研ぎ作業をすると、ケースの上で砥石がガタガタと動き、研ぎが安定しません。ケースではなく、板の上に濡れタオル等を敷いて砥石を載せ、その状態で作業をしようにも砥石が薄いため高さが足りず作業がやりにくい。やむなく収納ケースの上に濡れタオルを敷いて、その上に砥石を載せてようやく研ぎ作業開始となりました。この砥石の購入を考えているならば、一緒に砥石を挟み込む台の砥石バイスの購入を考えた方がいいかも知れません。肝心の砥石の研ぎ味ですが、炭素鋼の包丁には相性はいいようですが、ステンレス鋼の包丁にはやや手こずりました。水の吸いも、研ぎ汁の砥糞の出も、白仕上げ砥石よりもやや劣るように思います。本当にちゃんと研げているのか？という疑念を抱きながら研ぎ作業を続けましたが、結果は、ちゃんと研げていました。キラリと輝く鋭利な切れ刃がちゃんと包丁についていました。驚くような切れ味で、気持ちよく、楽しく料理ができました。研ぎ台と砥石が一体となった物とは違い、この砥石はまさに裸、わずか1センチの薄さ故に取扱いには注意が必要でしょう。落としたりしたら割れる可能性大です。荒砥石や中砥石と違い、仕上げ砥石はそこまで長時間使用する物ではないため、急に砥石の平面が歪むということはありませんが、この薄い砥石で平面直しをすればすぐに使用限界の薄さに到達するでしょう。研ぎ上がりや切れ味には満足していますが、ほとんど役に立たない研ぎ台兼収納ケースに砥石の薄さ故に、砥石としての利便性やコストパフォーマンスという点では、やはり白仕上げ砥石8000番の方が上回るかなと個人的には思います。まあ12000番の砥石があの価格ですから、お得感はあるんですが…。

研磨能力は問題ありません。研ぎ始めてすぐに鏡面になります。セラミック砥石なのに、天然仕上げ砥石のようにかなり柔らかく、ちょっと力加減を誤ると刃物で砥石自体を削いでしまいます。 また、他の方も書かれているように、砥石が薄いので、砥石台等で底上げしてあげないと、手が作業台と干渉する場合があるかと思います。 またまた、粒度が細かいので、目詰まりやメタルマークが付きやすいので、スエヒロの修正用名倉砥石のようなトリートメント用の砥石は必須です。

Its a good grit. But the material is too soft and made too many bites into the stone. Very much like cutting into clay. I used a ceremic version and it was way better and can much more tougher.
