Q: Could a second mattress be put below on the floor so two could sleep here--one on the top in the loft and one below on the floor?

I have a full size mattress that I plan to put underneath. With it put in at an opposite angle, so the one end of the bed is under the loft, and the other end jutting out into the room, there is still more than enough room for the ladder on the side of the full mattress. This is going to be a great answer to my two grand daughters that sleep in that room. I have a ceiling fan that would make a regular bunk bed out of the question.

Exactly 3 feet from the floor to the bottom bar on the bed.

Q: The description states the bed will hold up to 600 lbs., but I read in the reviews that it will hold up to 225 lbs. Which weight limit is correct?

I would bet money on the 225lbs. being a max, not 600. It's for kids. As an adult I would really be hesitant to climb up there to read my kid a bedtime story. We'd fit, but I'd hate to risk collapsing it. Could it support 600 lbs perfectly distributed without moving, assuming the bed was perfectly assembled and none of the bolts had worked themselves loose from many nights of a wiggly restless kid? "It wouldn't be prudent."
