The difference in price with the suunto d4i novo is very small. is it worth buying the d4f?

Buy the D4i unless you only ever plan on freediving. I pretty much never put on scuba anymore. They are exactly the same except D4f doesn't have scuba mode. They have the same depth rating etc. Also, if you change your own battery you void the warranty. I've done mine 3x with no issues but change and grease the o ring and be careful.

does the d4 do nitrox?

The product shown is the D4F which is freediving only and does not do scuba functions. The D4I does freediving and all the scuba functions including nitrox.

Is the band replaceable? If so, how much do the replacements cost?

Hello Gerhardi A.J. Thanks for your question, I wasn't able to find any information about a "sleep mode" specifically. However, you are able to take the computer out of dive mode.
