Is it better to apply this directly to the hair or should I put in my hands and run it through my hair instead?

My hairdresser sprinkles it directly on my hair then rubs it in a little. The 1st time I tried that, I dumped A LOT on my head :) so I now put it in my palm, rub my hands together, then run my hands through my hair. I have very thin short hair and this really adds volume, especially on the top.

Does this work for africsn american hair?

I don't know. I am caucasian with very fine hair. It does add volumn . I have been using it for several years. Works better than anything else I have tried. Use sparingly. Too much will weigh hair down.

Just a tiny bit of this dry powder adds volume and some hold to limp hair without perfume, or adding any weight to hair. I've used it on short bobs, and super short pixie and other styles with great results. My hair isn't thick so I'm not sure how well it works on heavy, thick hair, but I have no success using mousses, sprays, or other products that supposedly add volume or hold styles because they weigh my hair down. I also find those products have very heavy perfumes that I can't tolerate. This is odorless, uses only a tiny bit, goes in wet or dry and really a little bit goes a long way. An excellent product!!!!

This product does provide volume but makes your hair feel like its dirty. I only use it on the days before Im going to wash it as I don't like my hair feeling like that when its clean.
