Does the laptop compartment open up to get through TSA easily without pulling laptop out?

I would say no. It’s just sort of a divider in the main section. I don’t know how you would avoid pulling the laptop out.

no, but it is some what water resistant.

What is the warranty period? this is the second high sierra backpack that failed to make it through a school year.

I used this for university purposes...and I normally get 2-3 years out of one bag. And I only change because I want something new, I don't NEED to change them. And I work them out in terms of load, environmental exposure and daily use.
