How do you remove the horrible stickers?

If you give it enough time and effort, the stickers will peel off using your fingernails, but in many tiny pieces. My problem was the remaining glue after the stickers were removed. It's not really a problem if you know how to remove it. I keep a roll of duct tape in the garage. It's handy for lots of projects. In this case, cut a piece about 6" or so long and press the sticky side on the glue residue on the cane and remove it quickly. The glue on the duct tape is stronger than the glue on the cane. Just continue the pressing and quickly removing, until it is all removed. This technique works on every label I've ever tried it on and there are no chemicals involved.

does this cane fit in overhead compartment on a plane?

I would first check with airlines usually crutches etc. are stored in the front by the flight attendant. It can be made smaller for sure but I don't know if it would quite fit in the overhead compartment. I don't think they would allow for the possibility of it falling out when someone opens it. I would check with airline. It can be made smaller.
