Why the first picture is showing a DVI port?

Actually it isn't. I bought one of these, and I LOVE it. It frees up the VGA port on my TFF for a projector/second monitor. Take my word for it, it IS a display port end.

I want to connect my projector to my macbook. does anyone know if this cable works with macs? thank you!

This adapter could work with MacBook with thunderbolt 2 slot. Please ensure your macbook has the thunderbolt 2(Mini DisplayPort slot) instead of USB type C (thunderbolt 3) slot. The VGA connector contains all 15 pins. There are no vacancies in the plug. The DVI plug has all 24 pins plus the Blade. Again, no holes in this connector either.
