My lava lamp worked for one day. Now lava just sits in the bottom like a hockey puck. What a rip off. Does anybody know where to buy ones that work

Your lava lamp isn't heating enough. Swap the bulb out for a flat reflector style bulb thats 40watts or the maximum of the lamp. And make sure there are no drafts in the location it is at. Mine had issues with just a ceiling fan on low. Also I’d recommend a dimmer at some point so that when your lava lamp overheats you can cut the power back to keep it flowing. Also readers please don’t follow the instructions to shake your lamp vigorously like one of the answers suggests. You'll end up with a very cloudy lamp for months and likely have to change the water.

Would this work with 220 volt (to be used in another country)?

Yes. European bulbs have the same base as American bulbs. Put in a 220 bulb of similar wattage and stick on a plug adapter. I've been doing that for the last 30 years

My lamp arrived cloudy. What should I do?

Mine was cloudy too, but unlike the other 2 responders, after approximately 5 hours, it cleared and looked amazing. We may have been lucky though, I read some poor reviews of this lamp.

The light bulb that came with my lamp is so big, the glass part won't sit fully in the base, it's sitting directly on the light bulb. Is this normal?

After seeing the other answers... Yes, it does sit on the bulb. Really, the bulb height and the base are supposed to work out so that the bulb is just barely in contact with the globe at the same time the globe contacts the base. There might be a small gap since bulbs are made of glass and will have some variability in diameter. Also consider the possibility of height varying depending on the bulb manufacturer.
