"Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya on Knowledge: from Key to the Blissful Abode (Miftah Dar al-Sa`ada)" is an abridgement of the first volume of "Key to the Blissful Abode", a popular title by the renowned theologian and jurist Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya. In it, Ibn al-Qayyim focuses on the importance of knowledge and willpower, as means through which a person may attain Paradise. Willpower is the door and knowledge-in particular, knowledge which pertains to God and His Attributes, the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet-is the key. Ibn al-Qayyim discusses the virtues and benefits of knowledge over wealth and worldly matters; the path to knowledge; the importance of pursuing knowledge and applying it to gain guidance from God and protect oneself from doubts; the superiority of the scholar over the worshipper; the necessity of using knowledge and willpower as the bases for all actions if one is to achieve spiritual bliss. Ibn al-Qayyim then concludes "Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya on Knowledge: from Key to the Blissful Abode", by discussing the importance of contemplation and reflection in order to attain further knowledge and guidance. It has brought so many different statements of wisdom to support its central premise that seeking knowledge of God, His Names, His Attributes, and His Words are the key to the Blissful Abode. Ibn Qayyim also speaks about the tools that the seeker will need for this intense journey and the various obstacles that might be faced. An extremely dense book. My sadness at finishing it (and no longer sitting in the company of such an enlightened soul) is only tempered by my happiness at getting to immediately reread it. As this book truly requires review and contemplation.

Fresh read this one anyway
Good clean print and Amazon didn't mess this one up as bad as the others when handling paperbacks, thoughtful and one can appreciate this, not sufi centered like yaama yaaama doo dee heha shazm whirling around shirk and kufr

So many highlighted passages
I liked the translation. The book took me a while to get into but once I poured deep concentration I benefitted from the passages and evidences put forward. I learnt a lot and continue to make use of his knowledge.

Excellent book and translation
Excellent book and translation. Would definitely recommend. Though, do note that this is not a translation of the entire work 'Miftah Dar al-Sa'ada' as the translator says "This section [on knowledge] represents nearly one-half of Volume I [of 2 volumes] and it is what forms 'Ibn al-Qayyim on Knowledge'" (p. xix)
